ESPN: Zajac a star by association

I know its ESPN, but this is an interesting fantasy article that has its main focus on Zajac and Parise.

Didn't see it posted, so I figured I would.

True true, I havent looked through the GDT so I guess that makes sense. I'll leave it up because not everyone reads through the whole GDT. If a mod feels its necessary to delete, go right ahead, no hard feelings haha.

Zajac is also in the middle of a slump, so I'm not sure I buy it.

I disagree with that article. While it is true that Zajac had a bad performance away from Parise, I think it is evident that he is currently slumping. If he was back to his old self he can play very well away from Parise.

I don't bother going to ESPN for my hockey news. Every new article they come out with further serves to validate my choice.

And the author attributes that slump to time away from Parise, despite the fact that they have not actually been split up. Lemaire has kept them apart in practise at times, but they've seen a significant number of shifts together in every game since then, despite the constant shuffling.

Thank God Lemaire knows better. Remember in the beginning of the season, Lemaire explained the shuffling of the lines by saying that Parise and Zajac are both impact players, and he was putting them on different lines to balance out the offence? He knows that Zajac, when on his game, is a dangerous offensive talent in his own right.

yea, listing his +/- rating when he doesnt play with Parise is smart, ESPN

im sure he tries to play worse defensively when he doesnt play with Zach...makes sense

It's not like he's been great lately regardless of whether he's with Parise or not. He had a very strong first quarter of the year or so. So strong in fact that he was making guys like pikkarainen (when pikk look lost and horrible until recently) noticeable. It didn't matter who he was playing with. Not to mention, when Zajac isn't putting up pts, he's still giving you stellar play in our own end.

That's pretty much a given with Trav, but slump or no slump, Trav's offensive number would take a huge hit if he isn't paired with Zach for an entire season. Just what I think though. He's still a tremendous hockey player, and a very good 2nd line center.

Listing his +/- in that article was foolish.

He needs somebody to light a fire under his ass.

He's in my doghouse right now. He came out in pre season looking like a more mature complete player. Then he proceeds to be invisible for long periods of time. All this after almost going to arbitration over money.

Hell lately he can't even connect a pass on a 2on1.

Parise was slumping, and he looked amazing the whole time.

Zajac is just playing like crap.

I'm not going to lie but when Zajac was split with Parise that one year he played awful and people basically wanted him gone. I still think Zajac is good, but he's point totals are a little inflated with Zach on his side. I think the same applies to Langenbrunner too but they are still fantastic players and Zajac is still young.

That was his sophomore slump. He was terrible no matter who we put him with. Zajac's slumping offensively and it seems unrelated to his linemates. Players slump, he'll break out of it.

I reckon he's nursing an injury. Parise seemed to be taking faceoffs even when Zajac was on the ice against the thrashers. Not only the ones Zajac got kicked out of also

My guess is it'll be soon. Now that Parise and Bergfors are firing again, I think Zajac will start putting up points. He showed at the beginning of the season that he is a legitimate offensive threat by himself, I'm hoping he can recapture that again.

I saw that too. He went 2/3. Not too shabby. Lemaire said he had nothing to do with that either, Parise and Zajac decided amongst themselves who was going to take them.

Looks like Parise is trying to help Zajac break out of his funk. Doesn't want to leave him behind I guess.

Parise is a natural centerman if I recall correctly.

I think his problem is inconsistency. He showed a lot of that last season.

Let's face it, we need Zajac to help out offensively, but when I see him losing battles along the boards, something isn't right. He also looks like he lost a step and is reacting slower. Maybe he does have some type of injury.

Put Zajac with Pando and Peters for a period... he'll snap out of it or slit his wrists.

Or he'll go postal and try to kill the other two. Either way, we all win!

I hope he can get it going offensively soon. It seems like his confidence is on a downward slope which, I guess is normal while on a scoreless streak. He just better be back to normal come playoff time.

I'm not too concerned. He's definitely not playing well right now, but he has the tools and the work ethic, he'll come around. As for the "star by association", I think it's a fair criticism until Zajac puts up 60-70 points playing away from Parise for a season. I think he can, but he hasn't done it yet.
