Leighton's Mask

The one bright spot of having Leighton on the team is his mask. It looks like the old school one that Bernie Parent used to wear. Didn't Biron say he was going to do that at one point?

It's not as much old-school as it is just unpainted because he has been a Flyer for like a week ...

I mean the design, or lack thereof, is old school. Sometimes dudes wear like a generic team helmet with just team colors or what have you or just wear their old mask. Andy Moog wore a bruins mask on the Stars for a while in the 90s.

He does have to Flyers logos on the left and right upper parts of it.

...yea, that mask is just his Carolina mask, covered in white tape, with some flyers logos drawn on the side...He's probably waiting on a Flyers themed helmet...I would dig if he went with a white design, with the logo on the side, its classy...

I would be shocked if he changes before he loses.

Considering he's a one month rental to most teams, he should stick to the plain white instead of spending his entire salary on a new mask every time someone new picks him up.

I don't care nearly as much about the masking tape mask as much as the fact that we won and he looked pretty solid in net.

He looked alright. Did have some nice saves but also kicked out a few bad rebounds. That could be because of rust or it could be because he's Michael Leighton. Either way I want Boosh and Emery healthy again, asap.

What you mean the goal that Carter got an assist on for handing the puck to Tampa on a silver platter?

Leighton scares the **** out of me. When he goes down on his pad, he has no control, he's sliding everywhere, I almost fear I'll see him slide out to the face off dot if he goes post to post

yeah that was a horrible turnover, but still a bad goal for the goalie

Goalies don't pay for their gear, the team does. Any mask, pads, or paint job Leighton gets is paid by the Flyers.

The guy has some decent fundamentals, but then ruins it by over committing. He needs to just relax and stay focused. He needs to simplify his game and make things easier on himself.

Rebound Control is his big issue. He made some pretty solid stops, had some decent side to side movement, I remember one save where he robbed someone in the second on a 2 on 1 pass. He gets down Rebound Control and he could be fairly decent. Too bad he'll be Boucher's backup and the 3rd goalie/minors goalie when Emery comes back.

Leighton's mask should have a "Your Logo Here" box and a bar code.

What's comical about posts like this is that Leighton is getting paid to play hockey professionally while none of those busting on him are.

I've watched Leighton since his rookie days in the AHL and he's a solid netminder. Unfortunately he's a "tweener" who will either dominate at the AHL level or struggle at the NHL level. That said he's certainly a great third option to have in an organization.
