Team Canada Jersey Numbers

Sorry if there is a thread about this already but I couldn't find it.

Have they released the jersey numbers yet? This is the for the purpose of buying a Team Canada jersey online and what not. I was hoping to get a Nash jersey just didn't want to get the wrong number.

Also, what is the best place to get the official Team Canada jersey? Thanks.

No news on it as of yet. Nash should be a lock for #61, though.

Question: What's the deal with #19? Is Thornton going to wear it or what?

Staal will likely be 11, if heatley doesn't get 15 he will be 16.

yeah it is basically the same thing as, someone coming from another team (who is an nhl veteran) and coming to a team where someone has his number already. majority of the time, the least experienced guy will give up his number.

They did, but Doan has been #19 at the two last Worlds. That's the reason I am wondering.

Is this official?

The name looks way too close to the collar. Is this how they are going to be?

Number 19 was not officially retired, as you correctly state that Doan wore it at the last two Worlds (teams managed by Yzerman, no less). Tavares also wore it at the World Juniors last year.

The story with No. 19 is that in 2006, Yzerman was thought to be a lock for the team, but pulled out because of injury. Because of that, it was announced that 19 would be out of circulation for the Torino games. It has since reappeared in recent tournaments, and should once again be available for the games in Vancouver.

I think Toews or Thornton will take it.

then if that is the case, then toews will probably take it, since thornton is probably used to wearing 97 already since he's done it in every single international tournament he's been in.

It looks like they just photoshopped the name in numbers in; notice 61s on the shoulders aren't inversed when the Jersey is flipped over.

It's supposed to look that way. Otherwise there would be #16 on one side. I think....

Will Canada wear the greens like the juniors did?

No, because not only is green the colour of Saskatchewan (and the jerseys were designed for that tournament), but also because it features the Hockey Canada logo which is forbidden as a primary crest at the Olympics.

Hence, the new jersey (which features the mosaic maple leaf) was created for the purpose of wearing them at the Olympic Games.

Hockey Canada doesn't worry about the World Championships for issuing numbers. For the Olympics and World Cup, #19 is not used.

Yes, the name is where it is supposed to be on these jerseys. However, the numbers don't look to be quite the correct font. They appear to be a bit too thick.

Toews was #9 while playing in college at North Dakota. He couldn't take #9 in Chicago because it was retired for Bobby Hull. I could see him trying to wear #9 again (unless it is retired by Canada for international play) if #19 is taken or retired.

Not official

I think no one wore #19 in Turin for Canada because Yzerman was offered a spot, but passed on the team, so none of the other players wore the number.

I think it was the same situation as last year's WJHC when after Bourdon passed away, no one wore #6 that year. This year, Ellis is wearing #6, so I expect the same thing for #19 for the men's team.

Goalies all get to wear their current numbers
30 - Brodeur
1 - Luongo
29 - Fleury

Defensemen get to wear their current numbers. If Pronger wants to return to his old #44, it's available
27 - Niedermayer
6 - Weber
2 - Keith
7 - Seabrook
20 - Pronger
8 - Doughty
22 - Boyle

Forwards there are 4 numbers that have multiple players wearing it now, 10, 12, 15, 19

12 - Iginla
12 - Staal
12 - Marleau

Iggy gets the number due to seniority. Staal can either flip his number to get 21 or go 1 lower which would be his brother's number. Marleau wore #14 in the NHL before switching to #12.

15 - Getzlaf
15 - Heatley

Expect Heatley to get #15, and Getzlaf to take #51 like he did in his rookie season

10 - Morrow
10 - Perry

Morrow gets #10 due to seniority. I expect Perry to take 16, which I think he wore in Junior.

19 - Thornton
19 - Toews

Option to Thorton. He can take #19 if he wants. He's wore #97 for Canada in past tournaments, but I think he'll keep his #19. Toews, I'm guess will go with #9, as the #29 he wore in juniors during that crazy shootout vs the USA is taken by Fleury.

87 - Crosby
61 - Nash
37 - Bergeron
18 - Richards
