Greta job at getting the quotes, I loved this one:

Quote:
“Two weeks ago, at the [NHL] Board of Governors meeting, [we met] and I couldn’t promote my own guy, so the other guys would come in—it was out of my hands,” added Lombardi. “[Johnson] was in the top six on everybody’s ballot. I was really proud of him.”

I'm happy for all three but I think Johnson can gain the most experience from this. The guy's got all the tools to be a superstar in the league. He just needs to iron out some kinks in his play.

Burke had a nice little back-handed comment during the post-game of the winter classic... something to the effect "it was an easy choice for goaltenders Thomas and Miller and very hard for the other"... he could of at least aknowledged Quick by name.

Get over the draft pick (Schenn) already, what a ******.

Meh, Burke's just acknowledging what everybody here already knew: there are two USA goalies who are light years ahead of everybody else and a third who's there to warm the bench in case of injury. It'll be great for Quick to be around that enviornment, but nobody's seriously considering him a candidate to rob the other two of their jobs at this point in time.

so essentially, the thrill of olympic competition is worth risking a season over....let SJ, CAL, DET, etc...send all their best players to play games in the middle of a season...LA is barely hanging on as it is

At least unlike last Olympics, we aren't sending 2/3rds of our top line there (it was Frolov and Demitra last time) or any of our top line for that matter.

Do you realize how much of an honor it is for the players to represent their countries? Of course we only care about this team making the playoffs and not giving a **** about what the other players feel about the olympics.

Look at it this way. None of these players (except Zues) have any playoff experience, and with this olympic's Doughty, Brown, Johnson, and even Quick will all get a good idea of what the playoffs are going to be like. Infact some would argue that the Olympics are even more intense then the playoffs. So i look at this as just not an honor to players but a vauleble piece of experience. And the Olympics aren't that long. I think the most any team can play is like 6 games or so...

Bad PR move as such could affect future free agent signings.

The Olympics are a big event, and have exploded since 1980, and now all the NHL stars that grew up in that era want to re-create that moment for themselves. It is a key learning experience, a big deal, and only comes around once every four years... Sure it is a risk, but it does wonders for the players that go. Even Quick, who won't be playing, will still be practicing and talking with the likes of Thomas and Miller against his own teammates filled with All-stars...

So im gonna have to (sorta) cheer for 3 Kings come the Olympics against Canada and the team Shark line (and Dan Boyle).

Im easy with that but the conflict is if the USA pulls off some mythical upset against them...last thing we need is a pissed off country at marleau, thornton and heatley actively rooting against the Sharks come playoff time out of spite.
I gotta admit... I'll be a little torn come that Canada vs. USA game, cause it's a textbook underdog story and it'd be great to have the USA pull through (go Pavelski!!!), but it just became kind of important for the Sharks for Canada to win the Gold just because if they don't the Shark line for Canada may have serious hell to pay.

and if our backup Greiss gets over on Nabakov in a Germany vs. Russia game that would be just great...the Nabby doubters around here would just love that.

Unit, Core, God, Country...I have no idea what that has to do with this subject, but it felt fun to write regardless.

He's my favorite overall player in the league so that's where I'm starting but I'll be bouncing my avatars around a few of the members, Kings included!

It is amazing how little I care about the Olympics. I'm I the only one that remembers that both Frolov and Palffy got hurt at the last one killing what little chance we had....

I do not like these glorified exhibition games possibly ending our season.

Just an FYI....

Mike Komisarek and Paul Martin are both out due to injuries.

It most likely will come down to Tim Gleason and Rob Scuderi to replace Komisarek.

We may get one more Olympian.

Actually, everyone is saying Ryan Whitney and Tim Gleason, at least from what I've heard.

Yes and that's who I think will be named as well.

If for some reason it's not Gleason, it'll be Scuderi.
