He was better than "okay" for the vast majority of his time in Edmonton. Claiming otherwise demonstrates that you either never watched the team back then or have no clue about the game.

If you could put half of his battle level in some of the guys on that list (Isbister, et al.) they would have been solid NHLers.

This isn't directed at you Liquor but I would agree that it is kind of annoying to look through all the links so I did it for everyone.

Nedved, Peca, Moreau, and Salo should not be on the list.

What is with people listing Tommy Salo? Ridiculous if you ask me. The guy put in some good work here and actually took a paycut if I'm not mistaken on that last contract he signed.

They could be very young and not remember that he actually did play pretty well here.

i remember salo having a huge night in one of the dallas series in the early 2000's making like 50+ saves in an unfortunate loss...the capacity crowd at skyreach were chanting his name...

yes, he became crap after the belarus goal, couldn't shake it from his psyche...didn't help his family was getting death threats in sweden..i think for the most part he was a solid tender who always gave us a chance to win..

having him on the worst decade team is just bad hockey knowledge..

I don't know about that, the OP and JTS aren't exactly teenagers. I think it has more to do with tooo much alchohol in their system being New Years Eve, based on the time the OP started this thread.

Tommy Salo on a suck list. Not everyone can handle booze like we do and still be coherent

Surprisingly, these two haven't been mentioned yet:

Brian Swanson

Michel Riesen

Fantastic idea, props to OP.

MAB certainly deserves a spot.
I'll echo the prevailing Salo sentiment. He was pretty stellar.

Mathieu Roy deserves a Bryan Marchment Award as "Most Likely To Knock Yourself Out".

Tommy Salo is probably one of the best goalies we've had.

Hell yeah. I once got a poster of him. He was like my favourite player every year he played with the Oilers. Even after the Belarus incident.

Mowzie wins.

There aren't enough players from this year's team on the OP's list.

Also, doesn't Salo have the most shutouts by an Oiler?

I actually had thought of Swanson. I remember a teacher of mine used to love the kid and would talk about him all the time, saying he would be a really good player for us. Schremped.

I also don't quite understand the Sean Brown hate. Well, in a way I do... but Brown was in the lineup for toughness reasons, and he provided it. I didn't expect him to be an offensive juggernaut or shutdown d-man.

remember Salo's last couple of years on the team

and since I no longer drink--I am now a grumpy old man and damn proud of it---somebody has to remind you young wipper snappers of the yester year and how we had things tougher back in my day.

As for why I don't have more of this year team on mine--

if the oilers do what I suspect they will do and go on a tear in Jan and feb and get into their usual 10 to 13th spot--all the negativety towards this group will drop by the side

I do understand the love for Salo, the man played some sublime hockey for us, but after the 2002 Olympics he simply fell apart.

I can't think of another in Oiler history, that destroyed a team with his play like he did. Salo was singlehandedly responsible (along with Lowe's inabilty to respond) for two missed playoff seasons.

Hey JTS I apologize if you may have taken what I earlier said out of context I never had any intentions to do so. I should of used a sarcasm face. I actually know u don't drink (you mentioned it in one of your other threads). My bad.

I just go to extremes to back up Salo. Tommy hip was starting to give him problems, particularily in his last season with us, and I honestly believe that the class act that he was, he brought this up to management and most likely told them it was going to be his last season so KLowe was nice enough to give him a chance to win the cup by trading him to the AVS.

And WTF is your Simmons avatar again, don't tell me Liquor suckered u in

He skated like an orange cone, (he actually had a jersey with an orange cone where the number was supposed to be) gave the puck away, but really what he was most proficient at was taking stupid penalties. Even worse than Moreau. I still.............well lets just say its still too early to talk about it.
