Pitton Recalled/Dubnyk to Springfield

Link: http://oilers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?...id=DL|EDM|home

Could this be a sign that they are officially giving up on the season? Giving the young guys some tryout time with the big club?

Or is it just a conditioning stint for Dubnyk?

In before obligatory "they're showcasing Pitton for a trade".

Conditioning stint, especially after that debut.

We are not making the playoffs so give him some games with the Oilers already.

With how Dubnyk has looked, why not let him go down and play starting minutes for the rest of the year? Pitton can't be much worse as an emergency backup and letting Dubnyk ride pine and challenge the record for worst GAA of all time isn't exactly developing this supposedly promising, potential heir to the throne.

Dubnyk makes twice as much as JDD sitting on the bench... Oilers are probably just trying to save some $$ here and giving Dubnyk a game in the AHL.

Yeah but is he ready to play a bunch of NHL games? Too much too soon could hurt the kids confidence and hinder his development. Especially playing behind one of the worst teams in the NHL.

It's more likely, that someone got tired of Landon crying about the Falcons record.

JDD makes $625,000
DD makes $700,000

How exactly is that half?

This hasn't stopped the oilers brass from throwing Gagner and Cogliano into the fray.

Sending him down to the minors after getting blasted in his only game isnt recommended Tony Robbins reading material. That team sucks too. I think he should get at least a few games up here so we know what we are dealing with. Cripes we knew sweet fa about JDD before this season because they refused to play him. Lets not make that mistake twice. Chances are one of these guys is down the road at the end of the year any way. Unless there is a waiver problem I dont see how its a good move.

I'm sure DD prefers to be up here getting his nhl salary but it really is hazardous to his longterm career to let him rot on the bench. The oilers need to get a backup who can lose them some games. Hopefully Tamby brings in a guy like Esche or Czechmanek.

So now he gets to play 2 games behind the worst team in the AHL.

You make it sound like the AHL is the same as the NHL.

There is a huge difference!

On the theory that the Falcons were the worst team in the AHL these last 2 seasons that is a possibility. Where the AHL caliber players are going to come from for next season is a different matter.

Judging from the nightly bombardment Falcons goalies are subject to I would disagree. The Falcons defense is so slow with the exception of Chorney (who plays down here like he's auditioning for a forward job with the Oilers anyways) that Glenn Hall or Jacques Plante would be shellshocked in very short order.

The AHL is for the development of players in hopes that players will make the NHL.

The situation is not even close to the same!

Sometimes part of that learning is playing on a really bad team in a developmental league! That is what the AHL is, the NHL is not. So the situations are not the same.

Easily said while sitting in front of a keyboard. Tell it to the goalie facing the bombardment or to the people paying for the tickets.

So all bad teams in the AHL should just shut down so that the goaltenders won't face a bombardement of shots.

I will send a letter to the AHL!

I already pay for tickets for a bad team, they are called the Edmonton Oilers! So I understand your pain!
