That's true but I always hear Sabres fans complain about their lack of size up front (no pun intended). This trade would help rectify that.

At what cost? This team is already struggling offensively, and Roy (before getting hurt) was actually the one guy who was performing on a semi-regular basis.

And to replace him with...someone who certainly is not a scoring line center (Handzus) makes zero sense at all.

Yeah the second really balances it out.Roy has outscored Kopitar the last 2 seasons and you think players like Jarret Stoll or Michal Handzus would even come close to acquiring Derek Roy??!Brown+ for Roy.

Most Kings fans have an unrealistic view of the value of their players. Look at the Heatley situation this past summer. Wonder if they wish they had him now?

If LA wants Roy, they would have to give up a core player.

LA gets a legit 1b center and Buffalo gets a big center who is awesome on the PK and scores here and there. Purcell needs a change of scenery and could really excel on the Sabres.
How about Hecht, MacArthur and a 2nd for Kopitar?

...cos that's what you're asking for right there.
A defensive/PK forward, a still developing player and a pick for a top-line center (Roy isn't in Kopitar's league, but you get the point).

As a King fan i say this. Any offer that has Purcell involved is basically a dump at this point. His numbers alone will scare off most casual fans who haven't seen much of him, and those who HAVE seen him would be even more turned off. I can see how from the Sabs standpoint this would be stupid. I would agree that any deal for Roy would have to at the very least include Stoll +. Depending on what the "+" is would really be the deal breaker. Purcell isn't a plus at this point, more so a throw in.

brown for Roy + something.

i think the sabres would have to throw some more assets to get brown but hes exactly the kind of player we need.

No way in hell the kings trade Simmonds.

Stoll, Purcell and 3rd

for

Roy

Ouch!! I consider one of the Kings more astute fans so I'll give you a pass on this but the Sabres give up a very productive, young guy signed to a solid contract for what really equates to the Kings spare parts. Handzus is good role player but when an older roleplayer is the main pice going the other way something is wrong.

As I said in another thread I would do the proposed Simmonds and Stoll. Roy would set up our center position for years and he would immediately help our PP. Simmonds spot is easier to fill than finding our now and future center.

Stoll could be had, I can view packaging him with other assets for a better #2 center, but I'm not sure Schenn would be traded unless it was for a true impact player.

I've been trying to throw the Stoll + Purcell/Moller + 2nd for some time now, but no reply at all on the matter

Schenn is your guy's Myers, so to speak.

Not sure I follow the Schenn/Myers comparison. Schenn's offensive ceiling doesn't project to be that high. I see him more of as an elite 3rd line center or solid 2nd line center.

I'm more following the desire to keep the player in the organization. I've read up how much Sabres fans love Myers (and rightfull so!). Same thing goes for how much we enjoy our Schenn. I don' think Sabres fans would at all want to trade Myers right now, same boat for Schenn.

I understand, although I don't think Schenn brings that much to the table that the Kings really drool over, although it looks as though he plays with some character that DL always welcomes.

I think that's it right there, so many King fans have basically drooled over how we've tanked for 3+ years that any prospect is guarded comparable to Gollem/the precious levels. Tag along going along completely with the DL plan of pure gritty players, you've got our fanbase stereotype right there. I know...I know...

No, he wouldn't.

If you went to the kings board, large majority would say, it would take a massive overpayment, which no team will be willing to pay.

Frolov + Stoll

for Roy

Thoughts about that?

Or if you guys dont want Fro, how about

Stoll + Purcell + Martinez + 2nd for Roy

Purcell has the skills, but he just isnt fitting in with Murray's system. I think he might have better success somewhere he might get more top 6 ice time. Martinez surprised everyone to make the team out of Camp but then faltered a bit, but I still think he will be a quality top 4 D that will see some time on special teams.

Nah, but we will be happy to take Marleau off San Jose's hands this summer if they don't re-sign him.

The truth is the Kings youngsters need to learn how to win and be accountable. Guys like Kopitar, Doughty, Brown, Quick, Simmonds, etc. are learning much more from a guy like Smyth than they would have learned from a hired gun like Heatley.
