Horcoff for Briere

Would anyone do this? Briere has a cap hit of 6.365 so the difference is a little less than a million. He is a ppg player when healthy. I feel this is the kind of deal that we may have to look at to get rid of 10. Yay or Nay?

I doubt Horcoff would, so isn't it a moot point?

nay. Its a size thing for me. Horcoff is just going to have to play on the third line and be better then he has been but not untell next year. What is his actual buy out anyways? And if he continue's to play like he is I am sure they could bury him and his contract in the minors. They would not let his contract hinder them from improving the team. Taking on Briere's contract that is not much better then Horcoffs makes little sense and to me if you have to do that just bury Horc in the minors and be done with it.

id do it, im not a horcoff fan whatsoever. i dont think briere would do anything for us, just an other weak/small forward (we have plenty). in fact, i really dont like briere at all either. but, if his cap hit is similar and his contract is shorter, why not? plus, once briere arrives i would intend on moving him as soon as possible to an other team. i see briere as being easier to move than horcoff.

Why would Philly do this?

I don't like Briere, but it's still an upgrade. Albeit not a good one.

It would be three years instead of six with the fourth year being paid 3mill in the minors. It would get us out from under a rock plus Briere is a better producer. Horcoff doesnt hit anything so what does size matter?

It could be wrong but I think NHLNumbers has Briere for 5 more years ... same as Horcoff.

Maybe they would like a more defensively (sic) responsible guy who can supplement the pk (sic)? They shave 1 mill off their cap right away, maybe give them Rajala or something like that?

Four more after this year. Horcoff is five. So I guess we cut off just one year. Its still worth it to me. Can you take another five seasons of Horcoff and all that comes with that? Really? Sheesh.

I would do it, I just don't think Philly would. It would also be fairly problematic for us lineup wise.

I would do this in a heart beat.

And as mentioned with the $3million payment in his final year of his contract, I am sure one could fetch a nice return to a team that needs a rental.

Done and done.

Paul Holmgren isn't Kevin Lowe.

Honestly, Horcoff is most likely stuck with us. The only deal I could see would be something based around Drury/Redden ala another really, really bad contract. Not a Horcoff bad contract for a Briere mediocore contract.

Hello frying pan, meet fire.

Why would taking on another insane contract make getting rid of one more palatable?

Gagner and Horc for Briere and Van Riemsdyk.

Or

Hemsky, O'Sullivan, Cogliano, Horcoff for Briere, Carter, Van Riemsdyk.

Obviously we would do that, again though I don't think they would.

More of what we don't need with a higher cap hit for the same length? Gee, where do I sign?

I think we'd be getting two of the best players in the trade. That probably doesn't work too well for Philly to basically just save about $1 million in cap.

Not the same length. One year shorter. Upgrade on Horcoff I would assume.
