I hope this thread will become an archive of Heady everyday thoughts regarding the Thrash.
To kick it off , i have a somewhat intense conspiracy theory:
What if Kovy and DW are about to pull a giant ruse on the NHL, by trading Kovy as a rental to the Blackhawks for cheap, skilled, young talent, with the intention of him re-signing with the Thrashers in the off season.
Kovy gets a taste of an extended playoff campaign with the hawks, while the Thrashers get bolstered with additional talent, potentially enabling the core formation of a perennial contending team. Once FA hits, Kovy re-signs with the Thrash for his requested 100 plus million dollar contract(hopefully front loaded).
Obv this is pure conjecture/fantasy/speculation but it is some food for thought; perhaps we would be better off temporarily loaning Kovy to a contending/deep team, with the intention of re-signing him, creating a veritable SE super team
Isn't Slater a UFA? Why would we want to re-sign him.
Also our bottom 4 defensemen would be awful. Hainsey, Barker, Kulda, Valabik
---
Start by firing Anderson. Hire anyone with NHL experience and is committed to help this team WIN and not do silly things that contribute to losing like what Anderson does.
Trade White. Trade Hainsey.
I'd offer Hainsey, White, 2nd round pick for Grabovski or Lapierre.
Re-sign MAX and Kubina.
Wait for Lehtonen's return. Trade Pavelec while he has some value. We can possibly get a 1st round pick if an idiot GM is willing to bite.
Offer a goalie a contract in the offseason with a backup intention but that can also start games.
Try to sign Frolov, Volchenkov, Tootoo, or Ott (i'd take all them)
If Kovy gets traded i would not trade him to Chicago. The return doesn't fit this team.

re Slater
because he's an old school Thrashers that gives 100% every shift and actually likes Atlanta, in fact he has family here. With a set of hands he could be a 1st line All Star. Despite this minor athletic handicap he still plays with tenacity rarely seen by anyone on the dirty birdz. Just based on that quality alone it is prudent to re-sign him.
Now who to bring in? A short list (in no particular order):
Michel Therrien
Andy Murray
John Stevens
Wayne Gretzky (Yeah and monkeys might fly out of my butt....)
Guy Carbonneau
Of course the Thrashers being the Thrashers, if they fired Anderson, they'd keep Weeks and Cunneyworth and name Rick Dudley the acting head coach (Waddell will pass the buck and make Rick take the heat.).
At the very least, they need to fire Weeks. Carolina didn't start having the success they have had until he left to take the Thrashers gig. But who to replace him with? Maybe bring Pasi Nurminen in?

slater has actually been one of our best forwards lately...now that i think about it that's kinda sad
you obviously have no idea who barker is and hainsey is not as bad as you keep saying he is. i want to trade him because of his cap hit but if he were signed for a more enstrom-like salary he'd be a thrasher for life...did you see how he broke up that play yesterday?
and kulda is going to be great once he gets experience. i'd rathere have schubert than valabik but that's just me
Slater, for all the grief we give him, is a predictable, solid, cheap depth player who is a product of the organization.
I don't think firing Anderson is the answer. The Thrashers have never played harder under any coach. There's obviously some sort of spark there. I do think Weeks needs to go. Something's up with the goaltending chain of creation in our system. Fire Weeks and bring in someone like Pasi Nurminemineminimenmimin.
as for kovy getting traded and then re-signing...i've thought about that before, it happens(just look at tkachuk) and the idea of our leader getting playoff experience is nice, but i seriously doubt kovy comes back here before he's like 35 or so if he leaves. he has some loyalty to the organization, but i doubt it's enough to make him guarantee he will come back if we trade him
LOL.. yup playing soooo hard for Anderson that they keep on winning!
Slater is an awful scrub he is not wanted by me. Everyone likes him now because he played a string of 3 good games lol. He's awful.
Cam Barker is over rated young defensemen that has yet to prove anything and Ron Hainsey is trash. He makes 1 good play every 5 games and usually it's because he just made a bad play and has to redeem himself.
1) Get rid of Weeks. Bring in Pasi Nurminen or Johan Hedberg as goalie coach.
2) Keep both Kari and Pavelec. 1a/b tandem.
3) Trade Kovalchuk for something beneficial to our future. Nobody over 25, pl0x.
4) Find someone to take Hainsey's salary.
5) Re-sign Max and Kubina.
