I know it's Eklund, but I think he may be right here.

Bergeron will be evaluated today, but sources are already telling me that Jeff Carter would be his replacement. Is this the right choice?
I think it would be a good choice for Team Canada, but there are a lot of other guys who could be chosen too.

To the extent that Bergeron was chosen to play with Crosby, I think it makes sense to go with St. Louis instead. He seems to be a perfect winger for Sid.

If Gagne starts to look like he's physically getting there, I think he would be an option as well given what he brings to the table...until Carter starts potting goals on a regular basis, he shouldn't be in the running.

Bergeron wasn't slated to play with Crosby. They did make a wicked tandem at the world juniors, but that's ancient history.

I believe Bergeron was brought on for his defensive awareness, with the bonus of some offense.

I'd be fine seeing Fisher, Brad Richards, or Gagne before Carter, although Carter is better defensively than he used to be.

I wasn't sure, I just remember some people pointing to the WJC performance as a possible reason for his inclusion.

What about Shane Doan? He, Ritchie, and Morrow would make a nasty checking line.

You mean, Eklund read over a thread on the main board...

I think that Doan or Martin St Louis would get the nod over Carter, although Carter's a big body at center, and that might be a factor.

That's what we all think before every game, too before we are proven horrifically wrong.

Didn't realize they let Randy Jones practice with Team Canada.

I'm sure Ryan Smyth would be in the running too....he's nicknamed captain canada for a reason and he was having a great season before his injury....now he's back...if he keeps playing well...he'd be a good fit as well

Doan-Richards-Morrow were an amazing line at the summer camp. I wouldn't have a problem seeing Doan named, but I think he may be down a few spots.

He probably is. I think St Louis has the best shot. If they were playing on bigger ice, I think St Louis would be a lock.

Canada has fewer right handed shots up front, so I'd expect a righty to be named (if the brass cares).

The next player named will be the 13th forward, anyway, so it would make more sense to name a player who could jump into a scoring role in the case of a tournament injury. I think that pushes Doan down a peg or two, even though I would have named him to the team originally.

Carter, Stamkos, Doan and Fisher (puke smilie) probably have the best shot. St. Louis and Gagne would be in the mix if handedness doesn't matter.

I would easily take Stamkos or Doan. Preferably Stamkos.

If Stamkos isn't on a scoring line, he's not going to bring much value. I love the kid's talent, but he's not going to shut down any opposing team. There are enough scorers, shootout specialists, and PP specialists on Team Canada for him to make his way onto the team, in my opinion.

I know that since he is on the Flyers and when the Flyers lose two in a row everyone on the team is a terrible player, but you can't deny that Carter is a good player and should be in the running if they need to replace Bergeron.

Not with Martin St Louis, Vincent Lecavalier, and Brad Richards still on the board. Carter simply has not played well enough this seaason to justify being selected over these players.

First of all I kind of don't want him to, but secondly I'm not really sure he deserves to.

Stamkos would be a ballsy move, but that is a misconception about his game. He is a strong, fast skilled forward that is very well rounded and is extremely tenacious in his own zone. He hits, blocks shots, plays regularly on the Tampa PK, and is second to MSL among Tampa forwards in take aways.

I would go with a natural winger over Carter personally. Gagne, St. Louis, or Doan.

I agree who ever said Morrow/Richards/Doan would be nasty to play against.
