Niemi Calder Candidate????

He has been sparkling this year and posting Vezina type numbers (albeit in a prorated season)

Save Percentage 929% (3rd in the league)
Shut Outs 4 (2nd in league)
Goals against 1.90 (estimated - 2nd in league)

So does he deserve at least some acknowledgement
All of his stats are better than Huet's right now

***** as I started writing this post Niemi was about 4 minutes away from shutting out Anaheim and just let in 2 goals

False.

He won't play enough games to get (or deserve) Calder consideration.

Truth: He's about 3 weeks too old to win the Calder this year.

Whether or not he gets enough games to win it isn't worth arguing. He's too old... barely.

Apparently I misread the eligibilty:

Quote:
The player must not be older than 26 years before September 15 of the season in which he is eligible.
Niemi was born on August 29th, 1983 which means that he turned 26 on 8/29/2009. Ergo, he is older than exactly 26 years on September 15th, 2009.

My apologies BWC.

If he was younger and played more games and stole Huet's #1 spot than he would be considered.

How many games do you guys expect him to start? I am thinking of picking him up for my fantasy hockey league. His stats are excellent and he got into a good number of games, and the Hawks are a good team in front of him. But will he actually play?

He's on waivers in our league right now and I have the #1 priority. Is it worth spending it on Niemi? Honestly.
