Versus

I thought all Ranger games being carried on Versus were done already???
I look at the schedule, and saw about 4 more. Sorry guys, I'm a frustrated Directv subscriber with no Versus.... I had to watch the game on line last night....

Versus blows anyway.

The cameraman didnt know where the puck was on several occasions last night.

They have one of the worst in game and intermission highlight compilations in hockey.

The commentators act like they know what the Rangers problems are but they are way off.

The HD feed is one of the worst feeds i've seen for any sports telecast.

The pre and post game coverage is second rate, at best.

They haven't updated their graphics in what, 3 years?

Anything else? oh yeah - its not even ON for certain cable subscribers. Nice job NHL.

Can't be any clearer...

Does anyone know when the contract expires with Versus? The NHL needs to sign with ESPN now. They should of done that when they got out of the lockout.

Versus was finally talking good about the Rangers. Surprising.

The bonus 'coverage' is really bad. And the replays are bad, if they show them at all. The too many men penalty last night was one such example - they showed a 3 second clip that was already halfway thru the highlight.

ESPN2 had better coverage in the 90's, so silly.

The cable / satellite wars are getting out of hand.

If you have DirecTV - you can't get Versus
If you have FiOs - Dolan won't allow the MSG HD feed.
I am not sure of TimeWarner's deal - they almost lost FOX which affects NFL / MLB fans.

I see the Optimum commercials that brag that they are the only ones that carry all local sports in HD (because they bleeping own the rights for at least 4 of the teams).

I miss ESPN2 as well. I actually used to love SportsChannel America's NHL games in the late 80s early 90s.

I blame Bettman.

I'd blame Bloomberg, too, but I don't think he's got anything to do with it.

Versus only shows 2 games a week on monday and tuesday and has nothing hockey related the rest of the week. I thought one of the reasons why the nhl left espn was because of the lack of coverage. When espn had the nhl they did cover hockey way more than versus does right now.

Why can't the NHL network carry more games? Are they exclusive to Direct TV? The hockey coverage is a mess. F you MSG, F you Gary Bettman, F You Direct Tv & Versus. Seriously, the NHL hasn' t a effing clue how to market their sport. a couple years back there were 4 games a night, Rangers, Devils, Islanders, and Sabres. The Sabres used to be on the Empire Network which I believe MSG bought.

Only one problem with this idea...ESPN doesn't want the NHL. Poker and cheerleading gets higher ratings than the NHL did.

those were the days...Tom Mees was a very likeable guy - it was a shame.

This is all on Bettman. He made a gamble and went with the $$$, as opposed to forgetting that it's also about marketing and getting hockey into as many living rooms as possible, which was needed after the lockout. He also thought that a channel with nothing will focus more on hockey and didn't want to be the 6th sport - even though the 6th sport on ESPN is better than the #1 sport on OLN/VS. There are still bars and hotel rooms around the country without VS, and the fact that satellite subscribers do not have it is as much of a joke as cable subscribers not getting to see a nationally televised NFL game.

Awhile ago I used to get HDNet, and every once and awhile they would play a game on there. The announcing was average, but the HD feed was always top notch.

One thing I remember was they would do a "Sounds of the Game" part, where they would go for 5 straight mins with no announcing at all. It was very refreshing to just watch the game, listen to the crowd, listen to the sounds, watch the players between faceoffs with no annoying commentary.

I wish there would be more hockey broadcasts like that.

Buoyed by higher ratings this season, Versus has agreed to carry N.H.L. games through the 2010-11 season. The cable network, which is paying $72.5 million for the league’s rights this season, will pay inflationary increases over the next three years.

Same here. I was pissed when Time Warner axed HDNET... HDNETMovies was great too.

And the HD feed was ridiculous. I remember when i bought my first HDTV, the first game i watched was on HDNET and i got so excited... and then i turned on Versus and MSG...
