Oilers problems fixed

Trades: To Pitt: Cogliano, Moreau, Souray(maybe a pick)
To Edm: Staal, Gonchar
Pitt replaces Gonchar with Souray, get a rugged left winger for this year and next, and also get a good prospect in Cogliano. Edm rids them selves of contracts for next year, but also get a big young center to build around.

To Mon: Staios, Deslaurier, Jacques
To Edm: Halak, pick
Montreal gets a solid stay at home Dman for this year and next, a french goalie who they can resign to backup Price and a big french forward to watch from the press box, or take big Georges spot. Edm gets a pick and also try to sign Halak to an extension as Khabby cannot play alot any more.

Next Years line-up

Penner(4.25)--Staal(4)--Hemsky(4.1)
Nillson((2)--Gagner(2.5-3)--Eberle(1.1)
Stone(.8?)--Horc(5.5)--O'Sullivan(2.3)
Potulny(.8?)--Brule(1??)--Zach(.7)
Spares...Mcammond, Morrison???

Visnovsky(5.6)--Smid(1.3)
Gilbert(4)--Chorney(.8??)
Srudwick(.7?)--Peckham(.7??)

Sign Witt(2??)

Khabby(3.75)
Halak(3??)

leaves us with under 50 mil to salaries(give or take), and a good young core to build with.Hard to get rid of all our tough to swallow contracts(Nilsson, O' sullivan, Horc).

Mark my words the Oilers will not ever be a contender as long as this ******* is on the team.

both deal get turned down

Montreal is in love with Halek again

Pitsburgh might take it for staal--but for both staal on gonchar they would want--regardless of the fact that Gonchar is UFA after this season

As for the Pitt deal...Gonchar is the PP quarterback that they won't be able to resign next year. Souray takes control of the PP for the next couple seasons as well, and has that mean streak to play against the Flyers. Moreau has the leadership, and toughness and Cogliano could possibly be a 3rd line center or or top 2 left winger of the future for the Pens, and both are good penalty killers, which offsets the loss of Staal.
Montreal deal...Gainey wont be able to resign both Halak and Price, because both want to be starters. They will go with Price. Also Montreal love their French Canadians, and Deslaurier will be a great #2 goalie, for cheaper than Halak. They need steady Steve on D and Jaques is a throw in.

If we wer able to get Halak out of Montreal, then we could try a trade of Halak and Gagner for Carter.

Absolutely zero chance pitts does this.

I read 20+ pages of hemsky for staal and the way i see it, unless a team overpays BIG TIME, staal is more important to them than any player near his value.

Also i dont think staal has the offensive upside to be a legit first line forward, at least not now, you never know what that future will hold for him though, he's still young.

Also, just because 2 of the players in the deal are french doesnt mean montreal wants them.
What makes you think they would like staois more than anyone here does?
As you stated jfj would just replace laraque in the press box,
and JD is a clear downgrade from halak at this time.

ALSO this doesnt solve our problems at all, a third line defensive minded center playing on the first line, and we get an unproven young backup...
Sounds familiar.

Agree with comments re the PIT deal.. Staal isnt getting traded for this package.

MTL might do this deal if Laraque was coming our way as salary dump.

Halak + Laraque for Staios + JDD + Jacques would work for both..

I would rather keep Jacques and trade someone else. (pouliot\pisani\moreau )

I just dont see why montreal would be interested in staios at all, and even if they were interested, i dont see why they would basically trade an unproven goaltender for another unproven goaltender and an aging stay at home dman who has lost alot over the last few seasons.
Specially when their goaltender has carried them for the last few weeks.

Misfit...Nobody asked you to read this, so quit whining.
As for the MTL deal, I think JDD would sign in Mtl for a mil or less, which is an affordable backup. Halak, I believe will be in the 3 mil range. Staios brings leadership and grit, and by throwing in Laraque, the deal will sound a little more appealing to Gainey. again I think Pitt would do this, for a few seasons of Souray and A good leader in Moreau. Cogs has some upside. Maybe if we sweeten the pot a bit, but then I think we would be overpaying.
