OT: Hockey at Fenway

I was at the Bruins Legends game at Fenway today and just wanted to share a few pics. What a sight to see ice at Fenway Park. Can Kings-Ducks at Dodger Stadium be done?

Awesome. I'm going to have to get there one of these years. Kings/rangers at Yankee stadium would be fine by me.

I heard that Yankee Stadium is just about to enter into an agreement to host a bowl game, so that would severely hinder their ability to host the W.C.

No. I just don't see how they'd do Dodger Stadium without pumping in a lot of cash to keep the ice..well..ice.

It's January 2nd and I walked in shorts and a t-shirt today.

It was more of a pipe dream than anything. If the Kings were involved they would have to be the road team, maybe in Denver.

That's love for you...

(Cool pics, though!)

Indeed, do we know what the weather was like back in Vegas when Kings played the Rangers?

I don't think going head to head with the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl in an already hockey weak market is such a hot idea... especially when you toss in the technological concerns.

I'd much rather see the Kings play an outdoor game in a cold weather city.

Denver or Toronto or Calgary etc

There could easily be a outside game in LA. There is no excuse

It's gotta be regional and they want it to be in the US to gain popularity. Next game should be Rangers-Devils at Yankee Stadium. If by some small miracle it were to happen here where would the ideal venue be given the Bowl games and Rose Parade and could it start at 5PM to deal with any likely sun issues? I've played ice all over SoCal and the ice can be bad indoors with the AC on, cannot imagine how it could be done with our weather and the sun shining down.

The excuse/reason is ratings. Anaheim/LA would make NBC scream bloody murder. It's got to be in a cold city (at least for the next several years while the winter weather continues to be good TV) and as others have said, LA would need to be the visiting team.

The Kings are definitely on NBC's radar though. Rangers/Kings is so plausible because it's all about ratings for NBC and those are the 2 largest media markets on earth.

If the Kings are involved in one. I'd guess it be Kings - Av's in Denver.

They did it in Vegas... Surely they could do it again. It all relies on if they want to put what it takes into it.

Gary Bettman, when asked about playing at a place like Central Park, stated that they wanted to avoid that at all costs.

For a crowd of maybe 4 - 6,000.

You're never gonna get 20,000+ fans on temporary stands. You'll also need suites so the real money wants to attend.

Back to Fenway (& Wrigley), I just do not understand all this love for attending any WC game in a baseball stadium. From watching on tv, it looked like maybe 20% of the seats had a "decent" view of the game. For seats in the outfield and top deck? - forget it - you couldn't see a thing.

And a football stadium may have even worse sight lines, unless if they ran the rink across one of the endzones, but then you couldn't sell 90,000 tickets.

I think you go for the spectacle and the experience.

I didn't particularly enjoy the All Star Game at STAPLES but I'm glad I went.... and yea I know it was a particularly boring All Star Game... but I think it probably translates to the Winter Classic.
