Blues and Ducks Scouts watching Ranger game

Per Ben Wright (Atlanta Thrashers beat reporter, via Twitter):

Teams with scouts on the press box seating chart tonight in Atlanta- St. Louis and Anaheim.

Please Slats, don't throw away kids for veterans. I will vomit if we get Tkachuk, as rumored EVERY year during the trade deadline...

Rangers got the Blues coming up, and I think that could also be another game to get Johnson in so hopefully it is for that.

They will reportedly pay close attention to Redden, Drury and Rozsival.

Maybe they're here to scout Kovalchuk...just a thought. (I've been reading posts from this board for months now, decided to finally start contributing. Hello all.)

Welcome to the board.

I thought the same thing at first, then I thought if you have to scout Kovy at this point in his career then something is wrong with your scouting department.

They could however be scouting other impending UFA's from Atlanta. (Kubina, Afinigenov, Hedberg, Kozlov) There would also likely be other players involved in a Kovy deal that they could be scouting. I'm sure they're checking out the Rangers too, I think it's no secret that Sather may be looking to shake up the roster.

Welcome!

Yup, it also crossed my mind that they could be scouting Atlanta and not the Rangers.

You don't scout players like Kovalchuk. You know what they're all about.

Players like Ovechkin, Crosby, Kovalchuk etc.

Kovalchuk would give us an extra goal a game...just think how much better our record could be with the extra offense . I've cheered for the Rangers for 35+ years and I think he would be worth the risk . We have some drafts to swap and a couple of roster guys that could get it done . I would not trade Del Zotto or Staal from our defense , but after that...anybody is available , even Gaborik believe it or not .

Call me crazy but I think Rozy is starting to become trade able. It won't be for anything big and some money like 3 million would have to come back but saving a few mil on the cap would be nice. Get a F and let Sangs play

I dont think you're allowed to include $ in a trade due to the CBA

Otherwise it'd be too easy to pay off an uncapped team to eat your crappy contracts for you.

Brian Burke is one GM trying to change this rule. It would really help teams like us with the $ to throw away...

I think there are scouts at almost every single game, on any given night..

I wouldn't read a thing into this -- there are usually at least 10 scouts listed for every game on the MSG press box seating chart for Rangers home games, and I usually see at least 3-5 at each game (including Neil Smith, who's at almost every home game -- he works for the Ducks).

Can we have Getzlaf instead of Jessiman now? The quacks already had him long enough. Can we use him with Gabby now?

Yeah, though having $ is still an advantage.. like you can dump people into the AHL and eat their contracts.

Hard to do if you're an uncapped team limited by $

Rozy had a pretty decent game and could benefit from a change of scenery and being played as a 3-4 defenseman on a solid team as opposed to be being asked to be a top line defender with staal on the rangers

look sangs is not ready I have seen enough of him with the rangers and the pack, his defense isn't that solid, i'd rather we give sauer a chance first or heikken, I did like nigel williams when i saw him but i doubt he is ready

All kidding aside, I've watched St. Louis several times this year and even though they have 7 "NHL" defensemen, they really lack poise and puckhandling ability on defense. Rozy may have picked a good time to get his game straightened out. Rozsival may, may just make some sense here. So may Girardi although I am less inclined to move him.
