I'm nervous that Murray is going to go out and make a panic trade for a forward now...ughh

It's a fundamental flaw of GM's. Like CEO's of major corporations, they are rewarded for short-term results. Often they will sacrifice the future of a team not having the security that they will have a job a few years from now.

I'm always scared when a GM is on the hotseat because they will do whatever it takes to get results now. Sadly, the knee-jerk reactions hurt the team and fans the most.

The way this team plays on the road and considering the Senators have a lot of road games ahead of them, you can be certain Murray is going to try to do something to right the ship once the team is out of out the playoffs (I still don't see this team making the playoffs).
The question is what could the team use that could make them better away from the Bank?

I think, depending on how long Michalek is out, this will determine Murray's strategy.

I doubt he makes an immediate move to bring in someone because of the injuries. What I think is more likely, is that Murray will evaulate how the team performs without 3 of it top offensive players and where the teams stands upon their return will dictate what kind, if any, move he makes.

If the Sens show they can compete with these three, and remain in a solid playoff spot, he may bring in some outside help. How they are able to maintain this level of play. If they get players such as Winchester, Regin, Shannon, etc. to step up offensively, it shows that given the opportunity the Sens have secondary scoring. You can never have too much, but all things being equal, I feel right now defense is more of a priority.

If, however, scoring doesn't really pick up the slack, but everyone buckles down and plays a strong defensive game to keep the team in it most nights and is able to grind out a few victories, then maybe BM looks more toward a Whitney/Brunette/etc.

If however, the team goes into the tank, falling out a of playoff position, Murray make look to start selling. If they are not that far out of the playoff race, he could still add, but rather a move a consummate cup contender would make, the Sens would look at a lower level rental, to help them compete against the other Eastern conference teams fighting for the final playoff spot..

Either way, I think Murray will see what the team does without its top players and make decisions accordingly rather than making a move to try and replace those guys, because that will be impossible.

Depending how long Michalek is out, I could see Murray making calls trying to get something out of Lee/Campoli/Picard + a pick. I don't think he's too concerned that his job is on the line.. since this is his final yr as GM.

Depends what Melnyk wants too. After all, he's going to make the Sens the mecca of hockey.

So indefinitely likely means week-to-week? Don't think it's serious enough to last a month, but think it's more serious than just a few games off.

Ahhhh a simple WTF is suitable here.

Yeah but they have the best goalie or one of them in the league that gives them a chance to win every night.

Indefinite means "we're not sure how long". Let's hope he gets his tests today and is good to go in the coming week.

- Luongo missed 6 games fractured ribs. (And like people say with Leclaire takes up to 18 months to shake the rust. Also missed 24 games last year)
- Salo 7 games
- Edler 7 games
- D. Sedin 18 games
- Demitra all season
- Grabner 21 games
- Bieksa out indefinitely (From a week ago)

Yeah but Vancouver got Wellwood to carry them through injuries. We don't have a player of that caliber.

tsn.ca's injury page lists Michalek as "questionable for Saturday's game against Florida" as of today's update

That is sarcasm, isn't it?

4 goals - 8 assits for 12 points in 37 games? Ottawa has plenty of guys like that.

They may have it listed that way but he is not questionable for Sat's game.....he is not playing and he is not making the trip to North Carolina for next game either.
