I hate to say it, but the sad thing is I don't think either of these kids is a future NHL difference maker. Of all the years for the Oilers to finally tank, they pick this one. I think we'll see the same thing next year.

Thats a different point of view. Care to explain why you feel this way about Seguin, Hall, and Fowler nevermind the rest of the promising prospects in this years draft?

I tend to agree with stratedge. Something about this draft just screams Daigle. The players dont seem to have the chops of a Tavarese or Crosby. If the Oil get first overall they should trade it for a bit of a proven player and the 4th or 5th pick overall

Kind of applies to the top picks all the time though. I mean, Hall/Seguin/Fowler may not be as refined as say Crosby, Stamkos, Kane, Ovechkin but they definitely look like they have the potential. Of course they could fall into the Daigle issue but that applies to all high end draft picks. Selectively looking at recent drafts, just check out the top 10 in 2004. Outside of Ovechkin and Malkin, the only player who is a big part of their respective team is Smid....and that's being relatively generous.

The fact we have cap problems kinds of puts us in the position where we need to hope draft picks pan out. It'd be nice to pick up a Kovalchuk but going back the other way would be Horcoff or another heavy contract to make things work-highly doubt someone would want our albatrosses

These guys might not be NHL ready for a couple years but all 3 are sure bets to be impact NHLers in the mold of JVR and Alzner.. (not franchise players but pretty darn good)

I will predict it right now that Hall and Seguin will be atleast 60-80 point players in the NHL.Cam Fowler will be a stud on defence and will get a few 40 point seasons.

I havent seen Seguin play but from reading these boards it seems his defensive play isnt as good as Hall.. How correct is that?

Interesting.

I've read articles that a few scouts said they'd take Hall over Tavares had Hall been available last draft year. And also, in what way was Stamkos better/more hyped than Hall coming into the draft? I don't see a huge difference between the two. In fact, Hall's junior numbers are/will be better at the end of the season.

The one guy I don't know too much about is Seguin... so thanks to the OP.

Seguin is a hell of a player, but the only way we draft him is if we end up with a worse record than Carolina, and either finish 2nd last, or the 3rd/4th worst team wins the lottery.

Edmonton won't take Seguin over Hall, and Carolina will take Seguin if he's available.

I'd say Hall is the better two-way player based off his speed, but Seguin is craftier in the offensive zone.

IMO Hall or Seguin would be great, Fowler would also be fine IF we drop to #3 or below. I still want Hall, the kid is like then Timex watch, he takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. Not to mention that a couple of goals that he scored in particular the one on the rush that he picked the top corner far side was something out of this world.

lol, a lot of people on these boards are down on taylor hall cause canada lost the gold...

i would take any action on the fact that hall scores more goals than tavares in the nhl... the kid is a born sniper with better speed and a better overall player and that's just a fact.

seguin looks pretty money as well, but he's probably more of a gamble right now, i doubt either of players are busts, if anything they will be on par with stamkos/duschene

So is speed a knock on Seguin or is Hall's speed well above average?
Im trying to look for a reason to NOT want Seguin on Oilers... Is his speed comparable to Gagner\Eberle?

Hall's speed is a big selling point to me, I haven't seen Seguin but the thought of having a team with Hemsky, Penner, MPS, and Hall flying down the wings is something that I'd love to see.

Seguin speed is slighty above average without the puck but he is probably an above average skater with the puck. Which is a big difference.

arent Penner, Hall, Eberle and MPS all LWs ? which leads me to a very imp Q..

how good are Seguin's faceoff stats?

2011
Pajaarvi-Seguin-Hemsky
Eberle-Gagner-Penner

You know that funny old joke, where the dude is trying to decide which of three girls to marry? It talks about this girl that loves to watch sports, and this other girl that is a very good cook….. etc, ect. And then punch line is “ and in the end he went with his first instinct and picked the one with the biggest ***’*.” Hahaha…. I miss that joke.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that whichever kid it ends up being, we are going to analyze, critique, and project boxcars anyways. And in the end, it’s a crap shoot. But I trust big Stu’s opinion more than my own, that’s for sure. Even still, if I’m Stu, I’m pulling for a few wins down the stretch so it’s someone else’s decision.

Yeah, but they aren't good ole' Canadian boys with HEART, and SKILL, and DETERMINATION. Right?

And I agree with what someone said. I would be fine with the 3rd overall pick. We get a 1st Overall caliber player, and there is no **** on our face if they turn out to be suck.

I think Seguin will be a very good player, but Taylor Hall is the franchise player that the Oilers need.

Seguin is to Hall as Eberle is to Tavares.
