Same could be said for any promising looking rookie but people always make assumptions. Some turn out wrong and some turn out right it's just how it is.
Yeah but saying that Del Z will take over for Redden someday is nowhere close to saying CJ will unseat our all-world goalie someday. See the difference?
That's fair. But to make a judgement on one game is ridiculous. Dominic Moore should have 1,014 points.
I can certainly see where you're coming from but he has done well at all levels and it's a fact that he was our best goaltender in preseason. And the game last night continues to add onto the evidence that he isn't a bust.
Like I said before, let's just leave assumptions out and let the kid play so we have a larger sample of NHL games to work with.
The Rangers should definitely trade Lundqvist now.
Just like how the Devils traded Brodeur after Clemmensen stepped in and did such a good job.
lol I don't know about others but I'm definitely not saying we should trade Lundqvist now. That would be absolutely insane. However, I don't think it would be insane to do it in the future and get us in a better position if Johnson proves to be the real deal.
And let's not compare Brodeur with Lundqvist or Clemmensen with Johnson.

He really struggled for two years in the NCAA after a good freshman year. Only in his last season he did really well.
Thus far this season he has played well in preseason, the AHL and his 5 periods of NHL. But he really has to show consistency for the next two years as a backup or for 50+ games should he have to play (due to Lundqvist being hurt, or playing brutal), before one can even talk about him being a starter. His history in the NCAA doesn't really guarantee that he will be able to do that
Gotta love our fanbase. Everytime a rookie impresses in his first game (or string of games), he HAS to be the next Lundqvist, the next Leetch, etc etc. See: Gilroy, Immonen, Callahan, Dawes, Staal...
Remember when Valiquette was shutting out the Flyers on a consistent basis? Even he pitched a shutout this year vs. Anaheim. Now where is he?
I really liked what I saw from Chad, I hope it continues.
Even though it was only one game he was very impressive. If anything now torts should feel comfortable playing Johnnie more to give Henk a break. In these starts hopefully Chad can increase his value and we could get a big return for him.
I do not see him as the starter of the Rangers any time soon however I said the same thing about Richter and how the Rangers would never trade Vanbiesbrouck so......but still I think we might be getting ahead of ourselves on this thread
Great job Chad, god knows we're gonna need more of that!!!!!

Give up. People tend to be very set on their oppinions on here. If some people think Chad is going to be an elite goalie because he had a few good saves in his first NHL then they are the people you shouldn't waiste your time arguing with.
I guess Al Montoya is the next Luongo; He did get a shutout in his first NHL START!!! Dam.. We should have gotten at least 3 first round picks for me...
Chad Johnson has to improve the five hole..Lundqvist rarely gets beat down there. If he could do that he will at the very least become a successful backup
By the way, since Lundqvist came into the league, how many rookie goalies have actually emerged to be on par with him, nevermind surpassed him, in the entire NHL?
Anyone want to throw out some names? I can't think of one, and it's been almost 5 years
(This only includes goalies that were not already in the league when Hank made his debut)
I really like the name Prince Chad...... he looked great! I think we found someone who can give Hank a well deserved break and still have a chance to win.
Please don't ruin the good name suggestion with crazy talk........
Beezer was a great goalie, but if he played his prime in the mid 90s, like Richter, the odds are he would not have won one. Nothing against Beezer, but it was real hard to beat the best goalies, Hasek and Roy. You either had to be very lucky or very dominating. Or both. Its no coincidence Marty never won one until those two retired or were way past their primes.

I noticed that while being tall (not as tall as Valliquette but still ...) he was much more mobile than Vally. Should be a much better backup when he gets experience.
Yeah but Dan was totally worth picking if for nothing more than to watch him beat the life out of Salo.
That was great...thanks for posting that, I hadn't seen it before. Johnson looked good, no doubt, but Hank is far past good whether or not a few delusional haters want to admit it or not. We got a backup for the time being and I'm real happy about that but thats all he is for now.
