The closest a hockey game ever got me to crying. If anybody asks, a scheduling issue caused us to only play 79 games and we opted out of a game against Hershey.
As if getting pounded wasn’t bad enough, the Albany River Rats will be scrambling for a backup goaltender to dress for Saturday’s 5 p.m. home game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Rookie Mike Murphy relieved starter Justin Peters after the fourth Hershey goal but lasted just 4:26, getting hurt late in the first period.
Better today, racked up 47 shots and still only managed to tie the game with 15 seconds to go - then Nick Dodge bagged the winner in overtime - Friday's game has been erased from the memory...
Sucks to hear Murphy's hurt, but just wondering how he's been playing this year? I know his stats look great, but just wondering on your guys impressions.

We definitely miss him in Belleville.
He's inconsistent, but now more good than bad - sometimes he'll look unbeatable, then next game he can't stop a beachball and rebounds are going everywhere.
Done very well for a first year pro though
Another win today, 4-1 in Providence with Jacob Micflikier potting a hat-trick - was a real solid show tonight, I don't think the Bruins really got near us.
Coach Jeff Daniels said Borer may be an option for games Friday night against Bridgeport at home and Saturday night against Adirondack in Glens Falls
“He’s been cleared to play,” Daniels said. “We want to see where he’s at. We haven’t done a lot of physical contact with him, but from a medical standpoint, he’s been cleared to play.”
Best wishes to Borer. Hopefully he can get back on track here and if the NHL isn't in the books for the future, hopefully a career in Hockey is, even if it's in the AHL.
There aren't many young hockey players who have been through what Borer has, both mentally and physically. The kid has the drive, motivation and love for the game that can never be put into question. Many would have likely called it a career by now. I'll always remember when Scott Hartnell put a hit on Brind'Amour and Borer stepped in and stuck up for the Captain, no hesitation, no questions asked. He didn't look pretty after the tilt, but it was something to see a young kid do that.
This was his 5th concussion and in an interview his father said it looks like he's probably done with hockey
He also talked about about the direction hockey's going in as far as hitting and the lack of respect for opposing players. You can listen to the interview here:
Really have to feel for the guy. It's a huge reason that I absolutely detest hits to the head like this in hockey. Mind you this was a blindside as well so this is doubly dirty, but the fact of the matter is that hits like this cost kids (and that's what they are at this stage regardless of the fact that the NCAA recognizes them as professionals) their careers and gives them issues that can really affect them for the rest of their lives. Good luck to you Matt.
