Ducks fan here, just wanted to ask a question. What is going on with Ryan Murphy? It looks like he hasn't suited up for you guys yet, though I thought he made the roster. Thanks.

We have too many puck moving defenseman like him right now, but I think a lot of us are confused by it. I'd personally rather him getting 30 minutes a night in the OHL if we're not going to play him. I have high hopes for the kid but at the same time I want him to develop and I think if he focuses more on defense in the OHL then next year he makes the roster no scratches.

I dunno, I've never seen him play, but the more I read about this kid, the more I get excited... Athlete's like him aren't all that common, and "choosing" hockey like he did should tell you something about his dedication and love of the game. He should be a good NHL player. Maybe a bottom pairing guy, but he should be there eventually.

Andersen recorded his fifth shutout of the season today, making 27 saves against HV71. He's now got 5 shutouts in 10 starts.

His GAA is 0.99 right now.

.965 SV%.

Clearly, we drafted the Chad LaRose of goaltenders.

Alright. Thx. Sounds like he is in a similar situation to why we sent down Holland/Palmieri/Etem. None of them are really going to benefit from bottom-6 minutes and maybe 15 seconds of PP time a game. They need to develop and enhance their game playing maximized minutes in the lower levels to develop their skillset and improve their confidence while they dominate. I have high hopes for Murphy, he is going to do well for you guys in the near future.

Hi guys. Following Rask since he is on the hitmen. Playing very well with 6 points in 5 games. He and his line showing dominance but unlucky last game. Rask looks like he is playing with a purpose.

I know its only been two games, but Peters... . Getting close to cut and run time, if it hasnt already arrived.

Also I'm not sure I'd call everyone on that list a prospect...such as Matthieu Roy.

Yeah, I just listed everyone in the system prettymuch, haha. Roy's no prospect, but he is a guy we'll probably call up this season so he's listed.

With the way it's going we're going to have a Murphy-Andersen tandem in Charlotte next season, no question in my mind.

so what I take from this is Drayson bowman and Matumoto are close to call up maybe...or if we need someone to fill in...

I think with Boucher the backup for two years, it looks like Peters is don't and Andersen/Murphy are next in line.

Caught Ambri-Piotta tonight, which was my first look at Gregory Hofmann this year, and first live look from the stands ever. It wasn't a great game in the end, more of a choppy match between two lower end teams. For a bit of context, the NLA is quite good hockey if/when teams have both strong imports and a deep group of Swiss players. Ambri-Piotta is at best so-so on both counts, and Servette-Geneve this season at least is quite poor.

Hofmann played on the third line, suiting up at both LW and RW, but never at C. I was pretty focused on him, so it's hard to say how much he would have stood out otherwise, but overall he had a solid game with a few noticeable moments. What stood out was his hustle most of all, and he really was working hard all over the ice. He pressures players on the forecheck and made two very good backchecking plays, although one actually resulted in a penalty and the other ended up with him crashing into the net. The latter one perhaps saved a goal. Despite the effort though, he looked kind of lost defensively at times. His head is always on a swivel, but at times I wasn't sure he was playing LW or RW in his own zone, or whether he really knew. That's understandable for a young forward playing multiple positions though.

Offensively he had a couple nice bursts and had one pretty drag play which almost got him a goal, but the goalie got the poke-check out. When he did play on the second PP unit, he was pretty effective from the side boards, and in fact in general was more effective in the zone and coming out the cycle than off the rush, despite the fact his speed is maybe his best asset. He didn't look great off the rush, although it was hard to tell how much of it was bad linemates, lack of confidence or anything else.

Hofmann's kind of a toolsy prospect I think. His first couple of steps are a bit choppy, but his top end speed is great. With another year or two he could smoothen out that stride and add some balance and really start to utilize that speed more, because right now it's more useful when he doesn't have the puck. Obviously he needs to add strength, although he was fairly effective along the boards, and I do wonder if he's grown. He looked a bit taller, maybe up around 6'1".

Overall I think he's an intriguing prospect, and is better than his stats indicate, but I do think if he stays in a third line role this season, he'd be far better off coming to North America next year. The NLA is an improving league from a developmental standpoint, but I'm not sure Ambri-Piotta, particularly while coached by Kevin Constantine, is the best thing for him. It's too bad he's a late birthday, because a season in the CHL would be ideal.

Andersen with a solid game today, 31 saves, 2 goals against which weren't his fault, and in the shoot out he stopped (or they went wide) 10 shots for a 3-2 win.

Andersen the best goalie prospect we have? I'd like to see who we'd have to backup ward after Boosh... also could use as trade bait.

I still like Murphy. He reminds me a lot of Ward in his disposition and he rarely has a total stinker. I think his athleticism will translate, but we're slow playing him in the AHL as we should. He has posted some pretty impressive numbers behind some pretty average defenses (few veterans) at the AHL level. He'll get his chance, I would imagine, to jump in after Boucher's contract ends. Kind of like how we did Grahame and Peters.
