I don't understand why Nashville doesn't want to at-least make a phone call and see whats up.
I'm thinking Kovy probably won't sign an extension to go to Nashville and therefore, the value in return won't be nearly as much as the 4 teams mentioned.
Enstrom is better than Timonen right now, no way the Thrashers move their best defenseman.
no hes not and its an obvious difference. timonen has consistently put up 40+ points and enstrom having a career year still probably wont outpace timo

Im not at all hesitant to say it. enstrom is a nice young player but hes not the calibre of player timo is nor is his value near that of an established veteran like timo. its a downgrade for the flyers and an obvious one.
Come on Timonen is 34, and is signed for 3 more years with a $6.5 million/year cap hit.
Timonen's current play is not a blip on the radar, he is on the decline while Enstrom is coming into his prime.
your right his playing in the flyers system brought him down from 50+ points he put up in nashville to the 40+ he puts up here. timo is better offensively and defensively and being a veteran he doesnt make the stupid mistakes a 25 year old does. he may over the next 5 years decline to enstroms peak level but to compare the two you are assuming that a) timo does start showing his age (which he hasnt) and rapidly and b) that enstrom continues to accelrate his development at an equal rate. the difference between the two is dramatic and yes it may over time make the two players comparable but no they arent now and enstrom wont be the better player during the life of either of thier contracts.
Maybe, but Kovalchuck has collateral uptick. Roy/Connolly and Stafford/Pomminville. Which ever center and right winger you put with him are sure to have inflated numbers that will be contributions unto themselves. Giving up Vanek is a given with a longterm contract extension. Mac would be the choice to go with him. We have Ennis prepared to step in at Center and move Kennedy over to left wing, his original position.
But, I don't think Darcy will ever pull the trigger.
Wisniewksi lost his job to Hjalmarsson
Sopel has played well this year
Barker is not as good as Hjalmarsson
Hendry is playing well
Barker originally lost his job to Wisniewski. Then the Hawks for some reason traded Wisniewski for Pahlsson, even though he was very solid for them, much better than Barker at least, and was as good as any Hawks defenseman in the playoffs with the Ducks. Hjarmalsson took over Wiz's spot because he could play a responsible defensive game next to Campbell, while with Barker on that pairing opposing forwards could dump the puck in any corner and never go wrong.
Barker is a PP specialist with a good point shot and barely 3rd pairing defensive abilities getting paid like a #3 defenseman. Except this year he's not producing on the PP either. Atlanta has five of those guys on defense any given day of the week. FIVE. Three of whom are easily better than Barker. If they get any more PP specialists on that team they're gonna have to start icing 3 defensemen on a powerplay unit.

Precisely.
Right now Barker is getting paid $3 million to play less than 14 minutes a night. In a deal for one of the best goal scorers in the game, why would Atlanta be doing Chicago a favor? Particularly considering that a d-man like Barker isn't a need in Atlanta at all.
Oh yes, but Atlanta also gets the 50-60 point Kris Versteeg + assets(?).
