Hank has busted out the Swedish pads!

My friend who works for the Post is covering Rangers practice today and he told me Hank is wearing his Swedish pads. This may be a stupid question, but is he actually allowed to wear them in NHL games? I don't know if they are a different size because the play is different in the Olympics.

I dont think he is allowed to wear them in NHL games, he is prob just using practice to break them in

I'm wondering if Torts is going to have a problem with this.

You know, team colors / pride an all.

Hank made sure they would fit on the team bus, so he's all set.

I vaguely remember the league telling Chris Osgood that he needed to change his leg pads because of the color--I believe this was when the Islanders claimed him in the waiver draft and he wore his red leg pads with the Islanders blue/orange for a game.

As for size, I'd assume they'd be to the same specs as his current ones. Goalies are generally pretty particular about their pads. It's not too uncommon for a goalie to break in a new set of pads during practice before he actually uses them in a real game. If Lundqvist waited to use these pads until a few days before the Olympics, there's no way they would be broken in before the first game.

Nothing about the league telling him to change the pads; if there was ever a time where they would've said it, it would be against another team wearing red.

Anyone else remember when they had to tape Glenn Healy's helmet with blue tape becasue it didn't match the jersey.

A little belated, but here's the clip from when MSG showed him using the pads in practice.

I remember reading about how Arturs Irbe broke in his pads, he would drive over them with his SUV.

When I played hockey in Raleigh they used to give us equipment or stuff that the nhl guys didnt want. A set of trevor kidd's 36" leg pads and some of irbe's stuff was up for grabs one day. The other goalie and I just stood there looking at the crap infront of us. Irbe's pads looked like they were from the early 70's and kidds 36" leg pads (this was before the long thigh boards became popular).
We stood there and laughed for like 20 minutes.
