Greene out “a few games” (Hammond)

Posted by Rich Hammond on 10 January 2010, 2:40 pm

Terry Murray has wrapped up his meetings with players, that lasted almost two hours, and I just got off the phone with him.

The most immediate news is that Matt Greene will be, in Murray’s estimation, out “a few games” due to an injury that took place during Greene’s third-period fight with B.J. Crombeen. Murray said Greene would have an MRI either today or tomorrow, after which more would be known.

Yeah... perhaps fighting with an already publicly soar back wasn't the best idea.

The worst part about this news is that Randy Jones is still going to be playing D.

Hopefully Murray scratches Jones and rolls out these pairings:

Johnson-Doughty
Scuderi-Harrold
O'Donnell-Martinez

Say no to Jones.

the point is being made each progressing game and season why traditional goons are useless in today's game...guys like winchester can at least use his toughness out there

yes, we know...the instigator, bettman, etc.....that's all besides the point. the game is what it is....goons are out.

Ivanans is a battleship. Battleships, while really cool, are totally useless nowadays.

And it's because of Ivanans not engaging in fights earlier in the Game that Greene felt compelled to do so.

Just ridiculous that our lump of mass that is Ivanans won't do what he's paid to do so instead guys we heavily rely on feel compelled to fight and get hurt.

Nobody in the system can replace Greene's/Drewiske's presence, Martinez is decent but we're not the same team without those two. Really unfortunate injuries.

I'm really bummed that Greene got hurt sticking up for the team. I'm really curious to see how everyone responds to it...hopefully, someone else picks up where he left off (not necessarily fighting, but stepping up for everyone else).

I was right at the glass when that fight with Crombeen broke out. The injury might not have had anything to do with the fight itself, unless it's the way they both twisted down to the ice.

Greene took a shot to the back from Crombeen, and Greene retaliated with a pretty nasty hack to Crombeen's leg with his stick. That's what started the fight.

Although Greene pretty much got rocked in the fight, he was pretty quick to the penalty box. Crombeen was a little slow getting up.

So Greene might have been injured from the initial shot he took from Crombeen in the back. That or the fall to the ice.

Greene who is a tough guy should never be placed in the "have to fight" role. It is a waste of a good defenseman (who is an awful fighter) to have Greene drop his gloves. And this is exactly why.

Great! Perhaps our best warrior on the whole team is out, and Jones is back playing (headshake), and the schedule coming up is just brutal. I don't even want to know what's coming up next. Oh by the way, freakin quacks won again and are only six points away from us. Yikes.
