NHL Teams Must Have 24 Hours Between Games

Last week the NHL would not allow the Flyers to push back the start time of their game against the Lightning because Tampa played NJ the night before. The league said a team must have 24 hours between the start time of games.

does this rule not apply to the flyers? The start time of the Flyers-Pens game on 1/24 has been pushed back to 12:30, less than 24 hours after the start time of their 1/23 game against the canes.

i dont think its necessarily an anti-flyers conspiracy as much as its a money issue as the game is now NBC game of the week

It's not 24 hours, it's 21 or 22.

I think on our West Coast trip we had a game with less than 24 hours between.

Yeah, I just checked we played the Sharks on Nov. 20th, at 10 PM, and then the Coyotes on the 21st at 8PM.

There have been other examples of start times being less than 24 hours on consecutive days. It happened earlier this season when the Flyers played at San Jose and then at Phoenix.

NBC has a clause that it gets exclusive broadcast rights in a certain frame (12:30 PM to 3:00 PM). That is why games which are rejected for the NBC broadcast (example: Sunday's Flyers game at Washington) get shifted to 3:00 PM.

Within the CBA, no game is permitted to begin prior to noon time. There are also travel considerations applied within the CBA that could affect scheduling.

The Flyers had a 7pm game in Carolina and then a 5pm game vs. the Islanders the next day, so it's not 24 hours between games. You also usually need notice unless there are extenuating circumstances, and the Eagles playing a road playoff game is not an extenuating circumstance.

Listen to this man. Games must be 21 hours apart, and another sport's road playoff game will not get a start time changed (Another sport's home game? That can bring more change than the bill breaker next to the soda machine -- remember the TB game in Nov.).

technically, the tampa nj game wasnt a complete game, therefore 24 hours between games isnt in effect. in reality they played a game within a game.

It's supposed to be 24 between the start times, however, both teams can agree to change game times due to circumstances outside of their control.
