I'd have to go with Beck, Jeep Patrick coming in 3rd.

Does it matter? Does that make Messier less important than Barry Beck?

Ron Greschner is definitely one of the more under appreciated Rangers but he is not at all deserving of his number in the rafters.

Thought you were asking about a whole D corp.

Trying figure out the best 1980's Ranger 1st team

RW Sandstrom
C Rogers
LW Maloney
D Greschner
D Ruotsalainen
G Vanbiesbrouck

Who played LW in the 80's?

Maloney is probably the best choice.

I've done a lot of research over the years, learning about the great Rangers of before my time, or at least of the 30 years or so prior to my time, but this is a guy that still remains a bit of a mystery to me. Just never got my hands on enough footage featuring him.

I never really had a chance to see Gresch in his prime. I saw the post-1981 version, which was a pretty average defenseman.

To me Gresch always seemed like he was a step-below the all-time Rangers. On the same level as Beezer or James Patrick.

Graves/Bathgate is probably the last number to be retired for a while. Someday we may discuss Lundqvist or Gaborik or someone else, but there's no one else on the horizon.
