Curtis Joseph Announces His Retirement

Source: http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=305816

TSN is announcing that Cujo has officially retired from the NHL. He is the winningest goaltender in NHL history not to win a Stanley Cup. Although his time in Edmonton was brief, he was stellar in the playoffs in when the overmatched Oilers pulled off their first round upsets against powerhouses Dallas (’97) and Colorado (’98). All the best to Cujo in retirement, he was the best post-dynasty era goaltender in Edmonton.

Remember these saves?

Dallas - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Whms4...1&feature=fvwp
Colorado - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIp0lPgjly0

I guess the real debate begins, does he make the HHOF? The lack of Stanley Cups could hurt his chances but he is #4 all-time in wins behind Brodeur, Roy, and Belfour. I predict he eventually makes the HHOF but probably not on the first ballot.

I was so upset when he left... those 2 playoff years were unreal.

I hope he gets in.

Good times. WOW! they would need 10 refs to make the all calls back in the day.

My two favourite goalie chants thus far Belfour and Cujo. It's too bad that players are playing for money, but what a career for an undrafted player.

Out of all of the superstars who bolted out of Edmonton for money; for some reason his departure p*ssed me off the most.

It came at a time when the Oilers were just turning things around for the positive in Edmonton after the "lean" years.

No to the HHOF. He was incredible in short spurts, but never consistently good enough to lead his team to a cup. He could play lights out for a round or two, but that was it. Had opportunities with good teams in World Cups and Olympics and didn't seize his moment. He was good, but not great. I would like to see the HHOF get back to rewarding greatness. Don't let the Federko's and Gillie's be the benchmarks.

Cujo was the goalie I actually remember playing for the Oilers when I started paying attention to the Oilers. Cujo, Weight, Smyth, Arnott, Marchant, McAmmond - oh the days.

My sentiments exactly.

The fact that it was the Leafs he signed with made it even worse.

So what if he didn't win a Cup? Last time, I checked this was a team game where Championship teams usually have depth at centre, surrounded by a couple of snipers and a strong defense. Cujo never played on a team that had all of those ingredients.

As far as character goes, he was 1st class and that will bode well for him when the voters look at their ballots.

He's a lock.

He did have those elements when he played in Detroit and got swept by Anaheim in the first round. He was blamed for the loss, but can you blame the goalie when the Wings only scored 6 goals in 4 games lost every game by 1 goal?

My little brother was heartbroken when he bolted for money reasons back in the late 90's. Maybe he's a good guy... but whatever. I'll never forget how hurt my 10 year old brother was.

I too, will never forget.

About your brother, I mean.

You just told me about him.

Back on topic, Cujo was the perfect goalie for the Oilers back then - giant killer, who gave it all for a series or two, before falling back to earth. But what giants we killed eh? Remember game 6 against the 'lanche, when Forsberg got cross-checked to the face right at the end, when there was a scramble for the puck as the Avs were pressing hard for the tying goal? It was a war out there!!
