1/13/2009 - Syvret (Separated Shoulder) and Hartnell (Flu) -- CSN update: post #79

Figured I'd get this going.

Mods, feel free to update as info comes in.

MOD EDIT:

Quote:
Hartnell, who left the ice with about six minutes left in the first period, returned for the second – but left again early in the third, limping off through the tunnel to the locker room.

General manager Paul Holmgren said only that Hartnell was sick, and did not offer any more specific information. Hartnell finished with just 8:31 of ice time.
Quote:
Just 1:17 in, Stars tough guy Steve Ott was called for boarding Danny Syvret, and Syvret immediately left the ice, clutching his left shoulder. The team called it an “upper-body injury,” and Syvret did not return.

Let us just hope they decided to take Hartnell out of the game for precautionary reasons.

But from what it looks like, it can be an abdominal tear/pull. He was bent over holding his stomach on his last shift. (Note I have no proof of this)

We'll see. If it was bad to where he couldn't skate off it would have held up play and we would have known, so he skated off on his own. I'm hoping it's just a tweak of something.

OKT in for Toronto, which is a good game for him to be in anyway.

Do you put him and Bartulis on the 3rd?

I think Bartulis may be bumped up with Timonen. He seemed to be double shifted after Syvret went out. IMO he has been more impressive than Coburn.

Sam at the Inq. says that Hartnell has an arm injury. No other details.

Damn.

I really hate seeing any of our players go down. This isn't probably the best time to see anyone out of the line up.

It looked like a shoulder separation or something like that.

Hartnell's injury went from being an arm to "sick."

Call Pyro and TKO. I actually want to see TKO against Toronto. Going after Kessel then fighting Exelby.

Tough break for Syvret, he had really improved. That said for a game like we will have in Toronto, I'm glad OKT will be available.

Sucks about Syvret, with the way JJ and Clement described him almost running into the locker room I have a feeling something got separated or dislocated. It's a shame because he has been looking real good lately.

As for Hartnell, maybe he had the flu or something? The last time I remember him on the ice was when he was doubled over behind the Dallas net and he did come out for the start of the third, being sick and trying to battle through it would fit the circumstances I think.

Hopefully Parent can come back strong in a week and a half and we only need to rely on OKT for a few games and Hartnell just needs a little rest. The lines we have now seem to be working so well and I wouldn't want to break them up.

Well, didn't Giroux have the flu? Maybe Hartnell got it too? Hopefully Syvy isn't too bad.

Coburn was giving me fits so he needs to be paired with someone who can cover his lapses.

Hopefully they're both okay. But if Syvret is out for a while, I'd like to see someone called up rather than OKT.

It'll happen anyway, because OKT will get hurt so as to maintain status quo.

That could be a good thing for syvret then. As he is a smaller body compared to most hockey players ( and indeed most people in general) if he has dislocated his shoulder it should go straight back in without any trouble.

This has to be done quickly though at the rink because your body works against you the moment it comes out of the socket. Your muscles once the shoulder is out, begin to tighten and keep the shoulder from being able to be "popped" back in. This is why you find very large players ( hatcher/ Cote/ Pronger) will be out for 3-6 months with a dislocated shoulder, while someone like blair betts can make it 3-4 weeks. This might of been the reason for him running to the dressing room. Quick thinking on his part
