GAME PREIVEW
Last 10: Anaheim 6-4-0; Los Angeles 3-7-0.

Season series: Surprisingly, this is only the second edition of the "Freeway Faceoff" this season. The Kings won 4-3 at Anaheim on Dec. 1. The teams meet twice in a four-day span in early February, and twice in three days in early April. The Kings have won the last three meetings.

Big story: Southern California's NHL entries come into the game going in opposite directions. The Ducks won their fifth in a row on Wednesday with a 4-3 home win over the Boston Bruins. Los Angeles has started a seven-game homestand with three consecutive one-goal defeats -- the latest a 2-1 loss to San Jose on Monday.

Team Scope:

Ducks: Jonas Hiller was named as the NHL's Second Star for the week of Jan. 4-10, and he showed no signs of slowing up this week. The Swiss goaltender stopped 27 shots -- including a number of point-blank chances -- to help the Ducks rally for the win over Boston.

The Ducks' ability to come back after trailing 3-2 after two periods was what Hiller liked best about the win.

"It shows that we've gained some confidence over the last couple of games," Hiller said. "We're not giving up and the team is not falling apart. Our guys are stepping up. We know we have to play 60 minutes at our best to have a chance. The next time is tomorrow night."

Kings: The Kings' offense has gone cold. Los Angeles is 3-7-0 in its last 10 games, and all seven losses were by one goal. The slump has sent coach Terry Murray back to the videotape to see if he can find answers for the slump.

So what did you find, Terry?

"These losses have forced me to do some things in my own reviews," he told LAKings Insider. "I went back yesterday and I watched games 1 through 22, O-zone play only, cycles. … There are certain things that really jump off the screen at you, when you're able to go through those clips repetitively. I can see a big difference in O-zone play, what we kind of got away from. When I reviewed the San Jose game, I was thinking, 'Wow, there's just too much play that's happening behind the net, below the goal line, and not enough from above.' So that really got my attention."

Who's hot: Hiller has won all five starts during Anaheim's winning streak, allowing just nine goals. … L.A.'s Anze Kopitar is 2-3-5 in his last five games. Second-year defenseman Drew Doughty has 7 points, all assists, in five games.

Stat pack: Hiller has stopped 152 of 161 shots in the Ducks' five-game winning streak. … Los Angeles was 12-1-3 in its first 16 one-goal games, but is just 1-7-0 in its last eight.

Puck drop: The Ducks are still 12th in the West, but their surge has carried them within four points of eighth-place Los Angeles. They're looking forward to a chance to cut that margin in half against a Kings team that's having trouble putting the puck in the net.

Teemu fractured his jaw last night, very bloody.

Hoping for a strong game against the quacks who have been much better than they started this season, a win tonight could help us get back on a roll.

We have to win this one with Detroit one point away, Minny 2 and the Ducks 4. I expect we come out hard tonight...

We better.

Funny video if you haven't seen it.

I would post it here, but Tony would infract me... I would link right to it... but Tony would warn me and delete it...

SOOOO.... check out this link: http://lakingsnews.com/2010/01/08/kings-2-kings-1/ AND THEN click the tab at the top "I Hate the Red Wings"... and look at the video in the comments...

Trust me, its worth it and I could care less if you read the links... the video was posted by a reader and is quite hilarious and appropriate.

Man I wish I could just post the youtube link here... I curse around children at games who can't even read yet let alone post on a message board...

Needless to say, **** THE DUCKS!

Kings have been pretty good at ending teams losing streaks, let's see if they can end the Ducks winning streak. Ducks had a hard game yesterday and lost a key player, the Kings need to take advantage of this and light the lamp.

Once again, I am expecting a pissed-off Kings team tonight. Lose this one and I could see this EASILY being an 0-7 homestand, which would be catastrophic for this team.

Kings looked really good against San Jose in the third, had a ton of shots, and controlled play with the majority of puck possession, let's just hope that Murray's video review will correct our recent goal woes, and something in our line combinations will click as well, here's to a KINGS WIN!!!

5-3 KINGS WIN

Just a bit over a week ago, the Ducks were double digits behind us... This isn't funny. These games are must-win and we need to start rising to the call and locking them down. This is a critical point in the season and our team needs to respond and step it up or else they will only find themselves deserving of looking for a good country club in April.

Murray ain't never scurred:

Quote:
[Randy Carlyle] likes to get things going as the puck hits the ice, making changes on the fly. I will not get Kopi off the ice in that matchup [against the Getzlaf line]. I don’t mind it. He has played against the top lines a lot in the last year and a half. I’ll stay with that. So if he wants to get away from Zeus or away from Kopitar, that’s a choice that obviously he can make. I’m not going to change on the fly to match him.

If the Kings want a winning homestand, they must win tonight.

We will find out tonight how much this team cares about this season. I hope to see less dump and chase and more front of the net presence. Too many times the Kings have a player on the half wall and 2 behind the net. No body in the slot leads to countless wrap around attempts.

We need Kopitar to start hitting the net from the slot and Brown needs to stop fanning on the puck in the slot.

I think a higher percentage of the time Brown hits the goalie square in the logo than fanning on the puck in the slot. He's got that down to a science.

His logo shots come from the boards though...

Tonight would be a great night for Quick's first shutout of the season. Does any other NHL team not have a shutout?

His logo shots come from pretty much anywhere. I don't think he could have put the opportunity from the low slot in the first more squarely into Nabokov's chest last game. I'm starting to wonder if he does it on purpose for ***** and giggles. It's very possible he is just that accurate...
