The Union honestly outplayed Madrid that game. Two miscues and Madrid capitalized. The Union had numerous great opportunities. They may have lost, but I'm mighty proud of this team.

I wouldn't go as far as to say they outplayed them, but they played fair above my expectations, i'm proud.

Would've been SOOO sweet to tie it up with Torres in that last 3 minutes or so, would've been a beautiful goal

I thought the U played really well. It's hard to gameplan for a team that plays at the pace that Madrid does when you don't face anything near that speed on a regular basis, which I think was reflected by the two early goals.

That was my first ever Union game tonight I'm and really proud of how they stood up to the world powerhouse!

Torres cost us a couple chances late and Ruiz 1 or 2 early, but most of the team, after the first two goals...outplayed Madrid the rest of the night. Le Toux and Mwanga both looked like they can play with the big boys

Agreed. Outside of the first 15 minutes, they played well. Ruiz and Williams killed me this game. After the first half, they flowed alot better without Ruiz in there.

Torres has got to work on his shot. He can easily go around players, but his shot needs alot of work.

Rinaldo didnt do much. Real Madrid's speed was definitely alot faster than Union's were. They played a tight game and the many offsides that were called showed that. Really like how Le Toux played. Kept up with them. The Farfan brothers both did really good also. Michael Farfan had a nice shot, that I think Casilla's might have been able to save, but Gabriel did a solid job containing Benzema.

The Union really rebounded after the first 15 and did a great job keeping up with Madrid a keeping them scoreless for the rest of the night. A couple mistakes lead to early goals and too many missed opportunities kept the Union off the board. Farfan had a beautiful chip and they gave it their all to try to get the tie late in the match. I thought that the youngsters showed a lot of upside again tonight and it makes me excited for the future of the organization. Although we couldn't work out a win, the atmosphere at the Linc was awesome and it made for a great night.

Would have been nice to see LeToux hit the back of the net instead of once again everywhere but the net. Till he gets back his finishing ability he will be incredibly frustrating.

Classy goal.

Amazing that this team that is in first place solely because of their defense coughed up those two ugly goals in the first 10 minutes. Ugly in the sense that they were caused by crap defense, nothing wrong with the finishes themselves.

This is what I loved most about the game though, ages of Union players on the field when they scored:
33 (Miglioranzi)
30 (Gonzalez)
23 (G. Farfan)
23 (M. Farfan)
21 (Williams)
20 (Torres)
20 (Mwanga)
20 (Okugo)
19 (MacMath)
18 (McInerney)
16 (Pfeffer)

It doesn't matter who was on the field for Real Madrid or how early it is in their season. The fact that we ran out nine U23 players and they held their own is very impressive.

I was on the XBox and found the Real Madrid - Union game on ESPN3. The announcers were thrashing the Union during warm-ups and by the end of the match did a complete 180, it was kinda hilarious.

Great game, the Union made me proud.

I find it kind of funny that the U in international matches has one of the best records in all of MLS.

Real Madrid 2-1 Union
Everton 0-1 Union
Chivas G 2-3 Union
Manchester United 1-0 Union
Celtic FC 0-1 Union

That's a 3-0-2 record with a +1 goal differential. Solid.

I'm very happy that the Union came out of the week without any injury and they can go back to playing games that have impact on the rest of their MLS season.

What's strange about it? They haven't had a game since the Gold Cup. It would have been strange if they played a friendly or two, then canned him.

I am meh to it. Doesnt matter who coaches we wont do much better than Bradley's stint as coach for at least 10 years. We have a way to go talent wise and I think we need 30 years of a stable domestic league before we can consider ourselves contenders outside of CONCACAF.

Source: Bradley was blindsided by dismissal. His staff was notifying players yesterday of call-ups for USA-Mexico friendly.

It's not as far as you think, not at all.

Wait 2 years until we see Gyau, Diskerud, Wood, Gatt, Cunningham, Salgado, Lletget, Bijev, and Doyle in the USMNT scene

why wait so long? fire him right after the gold cup, give the new regime more than 12 days to prepare for the mexico match

either way, glad to see him go. he got them as far as he was going to take them
