Teams without a true 1st line center

I've been thinking about this; a very important player to have on your team is a true 1st line center. So which teams don't have one?

Teams I believe have a true 1st line center:

Anaheim: Getzlaf
Boston: Savard
Calgary: Jokinen
Carolina: Staal
Chicago: Toews
Colorado: Stastny
Dallas: Ribeiro, Richards
Detroit: Datsyuk, Zetterberg
Los Angeles: Kopitar
Minnesota: Koivu
Nashville: Arnott
Ottawa: Spezza
Philadelphia: Richards, Briere, Carter
Pittsburgh: Crosby, Malkin
San Jose: Thornton, Marleau
St. Louis: McDonald
Tampa Bay: Lecavalier, Stamkos
Vancouver: Sedin
Washington: Backstrom

Atlanta, Buffalo, Columbus, Edmonton, Florida, Montreal, New Jersey, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Phoenix, and Toronto have no true 1st line center.

So I'm seeking opinions if my information is right. Post your thoughts.

If Jokinen could get some damn puck luck and stop hitting posts, then he would be a "true" first line center....

I agree with your list.

Buffalo,New Jersey and Phoenix all have the right trade bait to go out and get a 1st line center, and should. (But this is HFboards, where Turris(ex.) will be the next Savard.

Well, by the points definition, Mike Fisher is the 30th ranked center in the league by points, at 32. If your #1 center has less than 32 points, then you don't have a "first line center" I suppose.

The closest the Jackest have ever had to a number one center is Andrew Cassels. Let that sink in for a moment.

I think Flames fans are wishing that Jokinen is a "true" #1 center... he had 57 pts last year and was a disappointment overall... this year he's on pace for even less, and he's still a disappointment.

Take out Jokinen, Arnott and McDonald. Not true #1 C's IMO. Jokinen used to be but he is absolutely horrible now.

If you include those 3 guys then you'd have to start including guys like Roy/Connolly, Weiss, Zajac etc....

I dunno if you can call Plekanec a 1st line center, but he's playing like one this season.

Now I must say, including Jokinen was a tough decision and is up for debate. Many people have different thoughts on Jokinen's situation in Calgary these days.

To add to the question, which teams do you think have the assets it could take to deal for a true 1st line center?

No, he wouldn't. Forget about the posts, he needs to play MUCH better.

I'm a huge Flames fan but I'm done defending Jokinen and I've pretty much lost all hope that he can become a #1 C ever again. Can't wait until his salary is off the books at years end.

How is Andy MacDonald a first line center and Plekanec isn't? Rest of the list is okay except Briere and Marleau barely play center anymore and i'm not sure if Arnott is still a #1 guy.

though hes very injury prone I'd say Connolly is first line material in Buffalo and I think Florida has a borderline 1st liner in Weiss.

I do agree that Plekanec has played exceptionally well this season. I'm just not sure if I see him as a true 1st line center who is up there with the names of Crosby, Backstrom, Thornton, etc. If he keeps it up, it could be a matter of time for him.

I'll tell you the Leafs have absolutely no first line center. They may not even have a true 2nd line center.

He doesn't have to be up there with those names, just with Jokinen, Stastny, Koivu, Kopitar, Arnott, etc... and he is.

That and I'm pretty sure Staal for Carolina is playing wing right now leaving the Canes without a first line center

Langkow has been a better center in Calgary than Jokinen...

Maybe Jokinen and Arnott as I don't believe they're #1 C's either but there is no way you can put Plekanec in the same league as Kopitar, Stastny or even Mikko Koivu.

Again, it's a hard decision to classify some of these guys. Arnott we all know was one at a time, as was Jokinen. McDonald was another tough one and now that I'm looking at him, I'm more than likely shifting over to him not belonging on the list. Also, I'm not totally sure if Stamkos is a #1 just yet, but I think he will definitely be a few years from now.
