Who is the most overrated player of all time?

Just wondering who everyone thinks is the most overrated player of all time. I personally would have to say Martin Brodeur. He was very good to great goalie but never exceptional and never at any time was he the best goalie in the league. I think it is quite a stretch to put him in the same class as Roy and Hasek. What do you guys think?

I'm not entirely sure, but I can assure you it is NOT Martin Brodeur.

And I can't stand the guy.

His 4 Vezina Trophies might have something to say about that...

BTW that's 1 more than Roy has...

Fine that's your opinion...but saying that Brodeur was never the best goalie in the league is completely wrong.

How so? People (Some Penguin fans) call him better than Gretzky/Lemieux so he must be far and away the GOAT to be underrated.

It reminds me of the 92-93 season when Lafontaine was finished with 148 points and looked like he was going to win the scoring title. Until Lemieux came back from cancer and in way fewer games finished with like a 160 points. The Gap between Lemieux and Gretzky with the rest of the league in their primes, and Crosby with the rest of the league now is very similar.

It can be debated that when Roy and Hasek retired he was but even then Mikka Kiprusoff was probably better, even Lunquist in the later years.

Well that's because he is overrated, of course.

His accomplishments are nearly similar to Jagr, especially his production in Points, his highest peak was something Jagr did in the dead puck era.

Again, He's overrated.

Let me know when he puts up Mario Lemieux numbers, some of you claim he's the best hockey player ever.

The Vezina goes to the top goalie in the league. Brodeur won it 4 times. Therefore, he was the best goalie in the league in 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008.

Rather than playing DragonSlayer and going after guys like Marty or Crosby, Gretzky or Mario, turning the thread into a Flamefest,
why dont we focus on the seriously Over-Rated?... the list is long, and as someone else mentioned includes Dion Phaneuf along with:

Yashin
Daigle
Bryzgalov
Gomez
DiPietro
Nedved
Graves
Luongo
Holik
Kaberle
Heatley
etc...

there is a distance between crosby and everyone else, no question. but it is very very very far from the distance gretzky and mario had from everyone else.

for instance, mario won the scoring race by more than ten points while missing 24 games. that would be the equivalent of crosby missing 14 games this season and still winning the scoring race by 7 points, which.... hold on a sec, crosby is on pace to miss 12 games this year, and, what? we already know he can't win the scoring race by 7 points? nooooooo
