M.A. Fleury = Osgood?

The Turco thread made me check the Save percentage and goalie stats. I had no idea Fleury's save percentage is that bad.
I know the guy has talent, but you'd think on a team like that a talented goalie would have acceptable stats,but his stats are crap and he, along with Quick are the only Goalies who still didn't register a shutout in the entire league.
The W's are there and that's all that matters, but I still remember a lot of people ripping Wings Fans for defending Osgood for not having the best stats.

I understand your point and yes Fleury isn't playing amazingly but I don't think you can use the shutout card to judge a goaltender. It's really more of a team effort than a simple "amazing night".

Fluery has just gone threw a bad stretch and plays in a very different system. The shutouts will come or this just could be a bad year but he will get on track.

I wasn't judging him or Quick for that matter because of the lack of shut out, it was just an observation. You'd think a talented goalie like Fleury would get the odd shut out after half the season.
By the way, sometimes a shutout is just the result of an amazing night.

its all about the playoffs, and his past 2 playoff performances, are why he is good, regular season means nothing to teams that are perennial playoff teams imo, if you're gonna make it regardless who cares how your goaltender is playing as long as he shows up in the playoffs

25 years old. Amazing playoff performer that has yet to put it all together during the regular season yet. I'd say this is a good dilemma for the Penguins.

Not Osgood.

MAF has this annoying habit of going on stretchs in which he makes incredible save after incredible save....and then he lets a couple beachballs float over his shoulder. Alas, he's still young.

His stats are not too bad. His team is on a big time cold streak right now anyways. Plus he's only 25.

He's like Cam Ward who doesn't disappear for 3 years at a time.

You cant blame it all on Fleury because the Pens defense isnt the best this year.

Don't sleep on Fleury he has had a couple bad stretches in his young career but has still bounced back big time and proved it when he won the Cup last season.

There are VERY few elite goaltenders in the NHL (maybe four). The majority of good goal-tenders are only above-average, and if they were in the pipes, behind a bad team they'd be effected.

Playing behind a good team however could mean a Stanley Cup victory as we have seen with Anaheim, Carolina, Pittsburgh, and even Detroit in the new era with Osgood who is actually average.

These goalies are also prone to get hot and cold when the team in front of them isn't playing all that great. Then there are times when the goalie won't be too hot either.

I wouldn't worry about Fleury. He is an above-average goaltender playing behind a VERY good team.

Besides, he's young. He could still turn out to be an elite goalie (doubtful but possible), but it'll probably be a couple of years before we know for sure.

MAF has some inconsistency issues, but he "just wins"

It's liek vince Young in the NFL, stats dont reflect his true play.

the best part is he's clutch when it counts. ask red wing fans why they lost game 5 last year(08 finals). Not one person will say it WASNT MAF

unless there a serious troll

Fleury is and will be just an average goalie until he can become consistent.

The past month or so he's been brutal at times.

He won a cup...hooray, that doesn't make him a star goalie.

A lot of goalies would do the same with a lineup like he has in front of him.

I think it's more like

Osgood = Osgood
Fleury = Fleury

Something like that

Maybe Billy Smith; average in the season, top notch in the playoffs.
