Comment: King (hand) could soon be headed for a conditioning assignment with Peoria of the American Hockey League, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Andy McDonald
Status: Day-To-Day
January 10
Quote:
Jan 11. Andy McDonald did not skate with the team on Monday and looks to be out of the lineup for Tuesday, if not longer. McDonald suffered an injury during the 4-3 win at Los Angeles that coach Davis Payne described as “mid-body.” McDonald appeared to be bothered by something in the hip or stomach area while on the bench in L.A. He played only 9 minutes 22 seconds.

Interesting that JR claims St. Louis was "closer than anyone knew" to signing Marian Gaborik in the offseason. I get the feeling thats just a bit of exageration and not taking Gaboriks choice into consideration but that would have been an nice signing.

Not sure if that's a realistic deal or not...but the Blues need to make a move, either a free agent signing or a trade, for a player LIKE Gaborik before next season. The young nucleus is starting to take shape, but there is no one approximating an elite scorer anywhere on the horizon. Even if Boyes were to bounce back, they need a guy to do what Kariya was signed to do.

If the front office truly were looking at deals like for Gaborik, I have more confidence that they'll be willing to pull the trigger next year. If by some improbable run they sneak into the playoffs again, that income and established level of play should be a strong enough argument to open up the checkbooks, raise ticket prices if you must, but assemble the roster the "win now" starting next year.

With the money coming off the books, the team salary structure is set up pretty well to accommodate that type of move.

Wait, there is a game today??

After reading that GDT, I forgot all about it.....

(Just kidding, but man that was an in-depth GDT)

4-3 win for the Blues. Perron, Boyes, MacDonald and Brewer with the goals.

Nice GDT, i dunno how you guys can create such a detailed one......must take a lot of digging.

Either way, go blues!

I predict 4-2 Blues. Perron with game winner.

He's a total klutz. I was surprised to see a few people on these boards praising Brewer for his play since he returned from his injury. He has looked rather sluggish to me and seems to be caught flat-footed quite often when the play goes the other way. I'd much rather see him paired with Weaver rather than Johnson. Weaver would probably cover his mistakes better than EJ would at this point.

Payne has them playing with confidence, and taking the play into the opponents' end. He has them playing with jump in their skates. I think he'll be around next year, too. He's got all the tools and characteristics to be a very good coach.

Maybe players in St. Louis will join their Peoria and Alaska colleagues, in saying that he is the best coach they've ever had.

I'm a mod on another forum for Cards/Blues (though that forum has almost no hockey fans, so I'm basically the only mod in my own forum. I was already a Cardinal mod (there's a dozen or so regulars there), and they offered to let me mod the Blues forum.))

Anyway, I'm pretty well used to making Cards and Blues game day threads. Actually, the Cardinals game day thread format I took from a Cubs forum. But some different teams use that HTML format. I can't use it on the STLToday forum because it doesn't use HTML. You can still post pics, but the the URL links with the name don't work, so I can't use the [URL = " "] [/ URL] format (without the spaces) on STLToday. It's a pain to do theirs because I have to take the HTML out of this one.

I didn't get to see tonight's game. I have DISH, so it wasn't on anyway. But I wasn't home. I was playing Scattergories with a bunch of Senior Citizens. It was a lot of fun, though. Honestly, I find old people much more interesting than college kids.

Good to see the Blues winning again. Maybe we'll make a run again?

Panger was commenting in the pre-game about a conversation he had with Oshie. Basically expressed how surprised he was to learn that Oshie had been struggling with his confidence. He said he'd hid it well with energy and tenacity, but he noticed how much more dangerous he'd become.

Berglund's transformation has been very visible, and to be fair he'd started to show signs of life prior to Murray's firing. It made me start wondering if even Kariya was having a similar issue....the whole team was thinking too hard and having a confidence crisis.

Whatever, they sure seem to be playing with purpose and confidence now. I don't know if there is still time to get into the playoff mix, but I think there is.

I don't think scoreboard watching is as important as the Blues getting to a magic number of points. I think 95 or 96 points will be the 8th seed. Things will tighten up a bit and a couple teams currently in the race will start to come back. The Blues need to stay healthy, keep up the intensity, get solid goaltending....and I think they'll be right there at the end of the year. At a minimum, I see no way they'll be sellers at the deadline. It just seems contrary to the front office's direction at this point. They err on the side of confidence in what they've got. And I really appreciate that. Its optimism, rather than fear or doubt.

I appreciate the work that you do, and not only because I am lazy. I rarely get to see Blues games being way outside of their region. But don't jinx the run. Gotta find my 'Super Playoff Push' avatar and dust it off perhaps? (speaking of jinxing)

One benefit the team has (IMO) is the poor start the team has had has affected individual players efforts to make their Olympic teams. Where-as teams with multiple Olympic players who are ahead of us, most notably Chicago, San Jose, Vancouver, Calgary and Detroit will be sending significant pieces to the tournament while most of our players will be resting.
