Dave Hodge whining about Taylor Hall sweepstakes

http://www.tsn.ca/columnists/dave_hodge/?id=306588

Looks like Dave Hodge and the typical Toronto media whining because the Leafs don't have a chance without a first round pick. And yes, we all want the Oilers to lose. What good is 9th or 10th?

Yeah, the oilers are in the running so all of a sudden it is a huge issue. Dimwit. Where was this comment 10 years ago?

I share his idea for draft order. It would eliminate any intentional tanking. But start in a few years, after we get ours.

"but now, it's an Edmonton issue where Hall is concerned,..."

He even says so

Having our only NHL calibre goalie injured along with our best player has nothing to do with the OIlers losing...

Why would the NHL be the only league to give a 1st overall pick to a 14th place team? NBA, NFL, MLB all give the first pick (barring a statistical anomaly in the lottery) to the worst team. It means that teams like the Portland Trailblazers, TB Rays, NY Islanders and Detroit Lions don't wallow at the bottom of the league permanently.

I don't see anything to show an "intentional tank".

We just suck, That's all. And we need SOMETHING to be excited about.

The fact our two best players (starting goaltender and franchise RW) are both out after season ending injury and surgery has nothing to do with it at all.

As for fan reaction, nearly 2 decades of mediocre results means the fans realise the best way to improve is through the draft. So we aren't happy, but we are onboard. I'm sure Laughs fans can appreciate that.

lol, the guy is obviously angry at the leafs having a tard for their gm...

this team is not tanking, they suck, and right now i couldn't be happier about it because it will hopefully get us to where we want to be...

Perhaps Dave Hodge should go look at the Oilers injury woes before opening his big fat yap. The Oilers deserve a first overall draft pick. Why is it that TSN is suddenly whining about a draft pick. I'd say it's because the Oilers have a chance at winning the draft lottery. Name one team that would be able to continue winning games with the No. goalie and best player out for an extended time. It's really interesting that Dave Hodge starts whing about this the year the Oilers have a chance to win the draft lottery. I'd say TSN Oilers hatred is showing big time with Dave Hodge's whining.

Well, the worst case scenario for any team is to fall back a single spot.

The only thing that makes us look like we are tanking, if it's just a teeny little bit, is going with our young goalies when there are better options out there. If we were trying to win we would deal for someone else.

Hodge was a proponent of the shootout being used in the Stanley Cup playoffs because he's sick of marathon overtimes. He's an idiot.

That we would need to give assets away to obtain. Plus this is good for them, gives them a chance to prove themselves and show the staff who to re-sign at the end of the year, who to trade

Agreed but having two rookie goalies "proving themselves" is not trying to win. Don't get me wrong, I want to finish last. But if we were trying to make the playoffs, you have to think someone would have been brought in.

Sure you could argue that, but at the same time you can also argue that we're in this situation so why not find out what your young goalies can do?

No. He is a legend who dared to speak his mind while having a prestigious position with the CBC and got fired for it. He stands up for what is right and isnt afraid to say so. Which is more than you can say for most media types.

As a poster explained previously the draft is there to stop teams being crap for the rest of their existance. Thankfully we look like we may be finally using it!.

It is an attempt to keep the league competitive and offer a lifeline for the garbage.

Take that away and its a dead league. Idiotic statement by Hodge.

Sorry, he totally lost me when he made the shootout suggestion. At first I thought that he was just being facetious.

Ya, Hodge is a moron. He's just a miserable old man. If all his dumb ideas actually happened, hockey would be ruined.

HaHa if he thinks this is intentional tanking he obviously doesn't watch hockey.
