Why has Souray escaped from getting more fingers pointed at his direction

3goals and 9 assists for our number 1 d-man

he missed a few games earlier---but he has played 31 games

seems to me with all the trouble with this year--when looking at players who are under performing--seems to me the guy who netted 23 goals last year should be on top of the chart of players who we are questioning

That's true. I guess most people don't care because they are hoping to see him traded.

Because he's coming back from a wicked concussion. It can take up to two years for a player to regain their form after a concussion like that. Ask Stoll.

You call 16 games a few games. What do you call a few games? I wouldn't call 16 games a few games.

Part of it is the concussion, but also that Moreau's atrocious play and commentary have drawn most of the slings and arrows from alot of us. I am sure the unabashed man crushes of some guys here for Souray also plays into things.

He'll be a hard contract to move, as most of the West coast teams are fairly limited in cap space.

If Dallas is still in the hunt at the deadline that's his destination.

Book it.

So what do you see coming back then, DSF? Niskanen, or Fistric +?

Didnt know where to put this, but I found this quote interesting. I saw it on nhl.com quote of the day.

"I came here with a goal and you hope to try and see it out, but with where we are right now it's tough to say if in the next three years we're going to see that happen." -- Oilers' defenseman Sheldon Souray

Its nice to see someone tell the truth and how he feels without looking like a asshat.

THe Oilers will not contend in the next 3 years (includes this season) he came here to help this team contend.

I hop ethey trade him to a team that can contend and that they get good picks/prospects back.

Hopefully someone will take him off our hands but it doesn't look so good at the moment.

His defensive play has been pretty bad. Last guy I ever want to see defending a two on one.

If management is looking to reload this season like I think they will, I don't mind keeping Souray around. After his concussion, I didn't expect him to have a great year. He gets a freebie for this season.

Fistric would be a good bet.

Having his melon between 209lbs of #12 and the boards at high speed for starters. If he's having the same performance next year and still in Edmonton, all bets are off and the wolves might stop feeding off #10 and start feasting on #44.

I think when and if the Oilers decide to trade Souray there will be many takers.

It's easy to say it's the concussion... but he's looking lazy out there nonetheless..
Plus it's hard when your partner is soft as jello...

There aren't many teams with the cap space to take his contract and he has to agree to the destination.

I agree. I have many friends who are not Oiler fans and they all love him. My buddy is a Hawks fan, has been since birth, and is obviously very happy these days and would love to trade for Souray. He is a missing piece to put a team over the edge.

This.

People are so used to the fast healing properties of pro athletes, but the reality of the matter is that scrambled brains are an incredibly difficult matter. It can be years of feeling "off"...Look at Patrice Bergeron. There's a good reason why concussions are the end to so many careers.

Comparing #10 to a carcass seems quite apt right now.

I think that we have short memories and not many of you would have even considered trading Souray last year. Yes he had a concussion and hasn't looked good as of late. But next year is another year and if he can get back to what he was last year, he is valuable on any team. It would be interesting to go back into the pre concussion Souray threads and see what peoples thoughts are. He was slowly becoming my favorite player, I think that teams would find a way to fit him under the cap. Plus, from everything that I have heard, the cap is going up next year not down.

On several occasions this year, Quinn has said that he doesn't care about the defense scoring goals. He wants them to play defense and keep the puck out of the net. Maybe they've all taken him too literally?

I'm just impressed someone criticized Souray and forgot to mention his +/-.

Souray deserves as much criticism as everyone else on this team, but his bad play is limited to this season. It's the guys who have been sucking for 3 seasons now I think people are rightfully going after first.
