I am normally not one to mix law with Hockey, but I think the only way for this incident to be properly handled is to have Cormier face civil penalties. I realize that this may set an unwanted precedent, and could have a chilling effect on how players play the game, but when the act/violation is SO FAR outside the lines of what is accepted, the injured player/victim can not (or should not) be deemed to have accepted the risks of that type of conduct.

Here, the punishment of suspension is simply not enough by itself considering the depravity of the act and the seriousness of the injury.
