Matt Cullen to Stars, what does it take?

We are ready to offer Brian Sutherby, and Toby Peterson for Cullen, and take his salary. Combined they both make about 1.5 Million vs Cullen's 3 Million.

Karl Skrastins for Joe Corvo? Again, we take 1 M plus salary

LMAO, both are horrible deals that do nothing to help the Canes. Hell, for those deals why don't we just give away Corvo and Cullen?

You are right, buddy.

We have enough 4th liners- Walker, Brind'amour, Larose, Dwyer, Samsonov, Cole, Kostopoulos, Yelle, Sutter.

see the objective for caroline is to unload salary since they are not making money by not selling tickets because of a horrible product on ice....

so we will take salary in return...dont except quality players

wow........ sounds like Stars fans are on par with Rangers fans......That first offer might be the worst offer ever. We are only trading the good rentals for pick or young player(as already stated by our GM). This is not a salary dump situation especially in regards to quallity players. Sounds like you are getting some bad information about a Canes salary dump.

If the object was to unload salary, then we would want picks and prospects, not to acquire garbage players like Peterson, Sutherby, and Skrastins (which by the way would make our on ice product 10x worse than it already is).

Definitely the most clueless proposal I've seen in awhile

The Stars are in 10th place and 6 points out of a playoff position. Obviously since this season isn't working out for you, maybe it's time to think about next season and putting something better on the ice... I counter propose:

To DALLAS:

Rod Brind'Amour... Is amazing at wining faceoffs.
Sergei Samsonov... A proven warrior that will instantly make your top line.
Erik Cole... Has a Stanley Cup ring. Veteran leadership for your team.

To CAROLINE:

4 first round draft picks
3 second round draft picks
2 third round draft picks
1 bag of used pucks

You forgot Daley and James Neal, but otherwise spot on counter-proposal. At least to something like this.

You're an CS violation removed for coming up with this truly pathetic proposal (and an even more pathetic attempt at justification, based on...well, NOTHING at all). Seriously.

What about Chad LaRose. He is a top 6 forward on any other team in the league.

You might want to step back from this thread for a bit and seriously reconsider what you have proposed here because it doesn't make any sense.

2 Cullen Proposals to the Isles

Proposal #1
- NYI 2nd,
- Jesse Joensuu (decent prospect with size and good hands, but doesn't have the speed for our system)

Proposal #2
- Blake Comeau
- NYI #4

All of our other forward prospects are NCAA long-term guys, I don't know whether Carolina would bite on. Rakhshani is closest to being ready, but you wouldn't have long to sign him. I think he'd be worth a bit more than Joensuu.

I agree with you guys in the deadline thread that Cullen could be worth a considerable amount. He's got all of the elements a team who is fighting for the playoffs need. For the Islanders, I'd love the opportunity to resign him. I think we'd have won 3-4 more games this year with a better PK, and Cullen can obviously also put the puck in the net.

My fellow Islander fans have love affairs with young Joensuu and Comeau and will probably indicate that the deal is overgenerous. But they're wrong. Comeau, however, is a an extremely strong young winger with decent wheels. If he can develop the toolbox for his tools, he'll be a solid player for a long time.

Cheers,

Dan-o

That first proposal seems decent enough. Joensuu could be the kind of player we need.

Wasn't he at one point thought of as a high first round prospect?

He was, but his skating really holds him back. He just doesn't accelerate very well. I think he'd have to be a top-6 winger to succeed (can't PK), and I don't seem him being in the Isles plans for that. We can't play an 2-1-2 that's sometimes a 3-0-2 with even more plodding forwards (already with Hunter, and Tavares, who is no speedster).

He'd be far better for a positional system that depends less on the forecheck.

Personally, I think Comeau has better upside than Joensuu if you can get him to play smart.

Cheers,

Dan-o

Forecheck is not in our vocabulary here, so that is perfect.

After last night's game, it looks like you guys really need futures on D. Also, with the state of the Isles goaltending and defense, I'm no longer sure that it'd be worth our while paying the price that Cullen would require (unless we had an inside track on resigning him). I don't want Cullen any less and would want the Isles to get him for 2-3 years this offseason, but I'm pretty convinced the Isles-Canes don't make good trading partners.

You should easily get the value equivalent of a 2nd and 3rd or 2nd + prospect for Cullen. He's basically Mike Sillinger. A little more creative, a little worse on draws. He may be the best center available in terms of immediate impact.

Cheers,

Dan-o

That's one of the big reasons I'm really hoping the Canes draft Gormley or Gudbranson if they miss out on the top 3, or that they acquire a late first and pick up someone like Jared Tinordi or John Ramage in the 3rd. Bloodlines don't hurt either ones case in my books

I do like some of the defensemen we have in the pipeline, one of which has been up with the team for a while in Carson. But McBain is likely the stud of our prospects and even there he's far more of a 2 or even a 2-3 tweener then a future #1 and he's probably another year in the AHL away. Dumoulin could be right up there as well but he's at least 3 seasons from the NHL yet IMO.

I think this entire board will be very disappointed if the UFA trades doesnt net us a talented young defenseman of some sort.

Agree.

People expected Ray Whitney to take us Voynov, Teubert or Brian Lee. It's not gonna happening.

We know Jimmy boy, i think he can suprised us with some not a bad kid as a Eckford, Drewiske... but it's doubtful top prospect will come here for what we have. We knot Rutherford knows how to finds good defensemans ,

I made this prediction on trade boards - Ray Whitney and Joe Corvo to Los Angeles Kings for Trevor Lewis, Davis Drewiske, Teddy Purcell and 2nd.
