Sweet. $775k for Goc. Nice.

Now that has me looking at the amount several other of our players are being paid and think wth? But I'll not complain today.

Welcome back Mr. Goc.

Welcome back Mr. Goc.
Remember Goc was only an RFA at season's end and would only have to be qualified at $600k (110% of this season's pay)...others have had higher base salaries to get raises off of or have been on the open market as a UFA.

Goc was a UFA this past summer, but only after San Jose didn't qualify him as an RFA...

I think for what he brings, this is still a great price. 775 for Goc vs 1 million for Tootoo?

No doubt. I'm very happy with the Goc signing and believe he is actually worth more. I was trying to point out why guys like Tootoo, Jones, etc are making more as RFA's themselves...

I wasn't really referring to our third and fourth liners.

Then who were you talking about? I haven't seen anyone on this team this year that's getting drastically overpaid for what they bring.

And while I know you're joking...I was pointing out that others have gotten their contracts on the open market as UFA's having put up numbers over the course of their careers, while Goc is an RFA that is having a career year in a contract year, but doesn't have the same history of producing...

The NHL pays largely based on what you've done in the past, not what you're expected to do in the future...it's pretty screwed up...

Good to hear. He deserves it for what he's doing this season. I hope for even more improvement next year.

I wasn't going to answer, since obviously I was just amazed that Goc would sign for just 775k, which in comparision to the other salaries made me think "WTH?" But since you are pining to know, I was thinking of Legwand and his wonderful lone goal and three assists through all of January and a minus five rating, and his six points in the last sixteen games and a minus six rating over that stretch. Minus six on the year as well. (Goc has a +/- of zero against weaker lines and only 3 points in January, but he's plus seven on the year)

I was thinking that it wouldn't be too bad to have 5 Marcel Goc's for well under the price of one Legwand... Especially as they are asked to do similar things. And I've always been a big Legwand supporter.

I could go into talk of the other vets who have vanished in January as well, and so recently they look old and overpaid, but I won't. I'm not saying anybody is overpaid. Just that Goc's good price made think wth about it all.

And yeah, slake, I was mostly joking around. (Lord knows I wouldn't be silly enough to criticize Leggy on this board. I'd join the Arnott, Sullly, or Dumont bashing instead so as to not get flamed too badly.)

I wasn't pining to know. I, too, was joking. That's why "haven't seen" was in italics (as in "I can't see [Arnott/Legwand/Someone else] because he's invisible").

So, how much time do you think you wasted on that post?

Not long. I had to look at his recent stats though. Haha I didn't get the italics. I was wondering what those were for.

I would've probably said Arnott if I had understood.

Very good signing. Still for some reason I see a set of luggage and a one way ticket in O'Reilly's future when I saw this

Marcel Goc

Hello Nsh fans,

Just wondering how much do you guys like him? He's having a great year this year in nashville! To me he is pretty underrated

Also, anyone know why he isn't dressed for tonight's game vs SJ?

Thanks Cheers

Goc has been great this season for the Preds, but has been plagued recently by a nagging injury that has caused him to jockey in and out of the lineup recently and kept him off the ice tonight. Was listed as questionable heading into the game, hope he can return for our East Coast swing next week...

Personally, I really like him. I think he's been a great player for us this season both statistically and with the energy that he brings. On top of all that, he's a nice guy. I'm glad that we have him for at least another season.

As for his injury, I was unaware that it was a recurring thing. It's unfortunate that he was out against San Jose; sometimes you don't realize how nice it was with that player until he's out for a game.

Trotz indicating in this morning's update from Glennon that Goc is still listed as doubtful for tonight's game. No word yet on whether or not he has rejoined the team or is still in Nashville either...

One seriously has to wonder if he doesn't return by Sunday at Pittsburgh, whether or not the Predators will release him to play in the Olympics?

I would hate to see that for Goc, but at the same time...I'm not too keen on our players getting injured mid-season while playing outside the NHL either...

No Goc, no Smithson, ugh. I was really hoping Marcel was going to be back tonight, he really brings something good to the game and we need that for a team like New Jersey.

Goc is likely for tomorrow, Smithson is doubtful and the goaltender is not being revealed.
Well, I'm glad Goc is going to be back... get one good NHL game in before he heads off to the Olympics!
