Rangers Prospect Poll: #15

With an excellent performance this year, Dale Weise won round 14. He already has 7 points more this season than in all of his rookie year. The big, tough forward is third in scoring in Hartford with 30 points in 43 games, on pace for a 55-60 point season as a 21-year-old. Weise is making the 2008 draft look even better than it did before with MDZ, Stepan and Grachev.

The vote for the prospect to be added to the poll was also very close:
(Based on the HF guidelines of who's a prospect: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/whatmakesaprospect)

Valentenko: 7
Gaulton: 5
Klassen: 2
Dupont: 1
DiMaggio: 1

Don't forget to vote who should be added this round and mention why you are voting for the guy you are voting for.

TOP PROSPECTS

2. C Artem Anisimov
3. LW Evgeny Grachev
4. C Derek Stepan

8. D Matt Gilroy
9. C Ethan Werek
10. G Chad Johnson

SECOND TIER

14. RW Dale Weise

Voted for David Kveton. He's playing really well in the Czech League, which is about as good as the AHL, maybe slightly worse. I think if he came to the US, he would immediately be a top-6 forward in Hartford and would get a chance in the NHL within a year or two.

Add Gaulton, an excellent shut-down defenseman.

Just noticed that Weise is our top RW prospect. Not good. All our other positions look strong, but RW seems to be a glaring gap. Hopefully our first rounder in June is used on a RW.

Can't Grachev/Kreider play both sides?

Also, Bourque

I don't know, can they? Equally well? Have they played RW on any extended basis?

Would love to vote for Kveton but I remember reading a quote of his saying he wouldn't come over unless he was promised a spot on the Rangers.

That said I went with Byers. Add Gaulton.

Byers. Add Owens.

I think Owens has a legit shot at being in the NHL someday soon. The main thing against him may be that he's a little light. He has lots of speed and grit and is an excellent penalty killer. He's not afraid to drop the gloves either. He's had 6 fights I think this year.

I went with Byers, even though Im not a huge fan. Add Maggio again, because I think we have a tendency to overlook late picks and he has done pretty well as a kid the first year out of the draft.

Went Byers. The guy is 24 and ready to play a regular shift on the 4th line right now and with his size he can be effective.

Completely forgot about Byers last time - voted for him here. Then Bourque, then Kveton.

Add Gaulton - the most upside of anyone else in the pool.

Kundratek, not sure who else to add as the list is getting thin.

Bourque, add Gaulton.

Honestly, I get to see him more often than almost anyone on these boards...
He's excellent, and his work ethic has greatly changed. You should seem him in the gym, he's pretty dynamic. He's so underrated on these boards, he's regaining his form and he's in the best shape of his ENTIRE career. For a defensive defenceman, he has one hell of a slapshot (he used to shatter glass and get penalties because he broke it so often, the AAA league didn't want to pay for it anymore) and he can get pucks to the net. His positioning is great and he's quite quick on his feet. I think he should be in the top 18 of our prospects, possibly within the top 12. When he develops properly he'll be one hell of a defenceman. Best ceiling in the prospect pool right now.

In bold are the guys on my radar. Chris Doyle continues to put up points (18-24-42 in 43 games) but somehow I get the feeling that it still won't be enough. (went 72 in 59 and no contract?). He should still make it into a late slot. What happened to Max Campbell this season?

I've been voting Byers for a little while. He's the most finished product and already a legit NHL fourth liner. Bourque has the potential to be better but he's way hit or miss.
