Cam Barker

Bruins fan here...

If Cam Barker become available, what it would take to pry him away from the Blackhawks? 1st round pick + prospect? NHL ready players? Fire away

I'm with BWC on this. Barker for Stuart would be great.

Barker for 1st? (Or really any pick, I don't think he's worth a 1st). I'd be all for it, but this is an all-out cup-run year. Picks/prospects shouldn't be our main goals in trades. Maybe in the offseason?

Can you trade someone for himself in hockey? I didn't know that...

I would have to think that, if he's moved during the season, the Hawks will want someone who can contribute back unless they can grab someone off waivers for the rest of the year (keep an eye on Carolina gents). If we can pick someone up cheap, then a 1st rounder and cab fare home from the airport is good enough for me.

Agreed. I feel that we're better off without Barker in our line-up. Forget this "off-season" talk. I want to see Hendry steal his spot right now. Can we please trade Barker for a decent prospect or a pick or something and call this experiment done?

First of all, I come in peace

It's obvious the hawks are gonna need to dump salary to accommodate the Toews, Kane, and Keith contracts. Looking at your roster I see guys like Barker, Versteeg, Byfuglien, and maybe even Sharp as candidates to leave.

So I was stat-browsing and I see a guy like Barker is only playing ~13 mins a night. Is it due to poor play or just the nature of the guys ahead of him on the depth chart? Because for a team like Toronto with so few high draft picks their gonna need a way to improve the roster other than free agency

Want him? Make an offer.

Barker's playing <13 min/night because of a number of factors, the biggest of which is that the Hawks' top 4 are ridiculously good. That being said, Barker hasn't helped himself out. He makes too many stupid turnovers and his footwork is mediocre. Also, when you have two of the fastest d-men in the league in Keith & Campbell, it's hard to watch the molasses 3rd pair of Barker & Sopel at all... Sopel's great on the PK but those two can't advance the puck well at all while the other 4 are all elite handlers.

Basically what I'm saying is Barker could be a serviceable PP QB on a team that isn't as fast as the Hawks are (TOR would be a nice example) and, as a 4th d-man, might earn his $3M more than he ever will in Chicago.

Well for a team that already has White, Kaberle, Komisarek, Beauchemin, Schenn, Gunnarsson as the top 6, there really isn't anyone there that Barke would steal a job from (at least from what your saying). If Kaberle and/or White are moved, then it's possiblity, but I'm not sure if Burke is willing to make room for another slow moving, mistake riddled defensemen on an already bad backend.

I was just curious as to what Barker's situation was, and if depth was more of a factor of his playing time then his play was.

Now Byfuglien is a guy I'm sure Burke would be looking at...

I was SHOCKED Burke didn't put Buff on the Olympic team... especially considering the lack of size the US had already. Shocked. And I can't imagine there haven't been/won't be phone calls from TOR to CHI to ask about Byfuglien

If they get the same Buff they got in last year's playoffs I'd really like to hang on to him the rest of this season and to wait to move him in the summer.

Buff didn't make the team because he so seldom uses his size...Also, he is beyond useless on the PP point..He needs to play EVERY nite...

I agree as well. I want to see Buff help us out in the playoffs, if only he can find his way back to the front of the net.

I wouldn't say he seldom uses his size, he does lead the team in hits and is in the top 20 league wide. I agree about the PP though. He has a booming shot which is great, but the lack of control hurts. He is far more useful in front of the net.

But even a pile of trash might have something valuable in it. When you factor in the 'largeness' of this pile of trash, it becomes clear that Barker is nowhere near the same level of value as a large pile of trash.

I feel like something like this could work if we're serious about this pile of trash:

Barker + 2nd for large pile of trash

Its the classic question of: don't lose the lottery and get Malkin, or have what happened go down and end up with Toews/Kane?

Ok, to be fair:

#4 Andrew Ladd
#5 Blake Wheeler (never played w/Coyotes - signed as an UFA w/Boston)
#6 Al (Not Inigo) Montoya
