In theory, yes, but the NY Post would probably blow it up and the organization wouldn't want the bad publicity.

I doubt that Tortorella was caught off-guard by the question. He probably knew it was coming from the moment the whole incident went down on the ice.

Torts likes to throw out words like "grit" and "jam" but the team never displays either quality unless we are blowing someone out... Which is to say we don't ever really display much of either.

The Rangers could if they wanted to, but I doubt it'll happen.

Either they would throw the puck away, or make a bad pass that gave the flyers the chance to jump on the guy receiving the pass as it went into his skates/behind him/way ahead of him.

The Rangers just never got composed in the game

i agree. I knew from the start when they were whacking at the puck, throwing it
at one another, i thought: Here we go, it's going to be one of those games.

I was hoping they'd get a goal and settle down. That BS Penalty call late in the 2nd
did them in. I don't know why they looked so inept in the offensive zone?
Absolutey clueless.

I'm starting to get sick of the constant line jumbling by Torts. It's worse than
Jackass Renney on most nights.

ugh, a nasty loss to philthy

Whats up with the postgame cutting off Torts interview. What is the point of doing a rangers postgame if they are going to cut off the head coach. Its not like they have much other programing to get to.

MSG crew obviously wouldn't want to show a yelling match between the head coach and a reporter. Not good for the team publicity. I'm surprised that the camera panned out and showed Brooks.

maybe, i think a lot of it is that we just arent built to play a gritty type game. Lisin, Anisimov, Gaborik, Prospal, Drury, and the entire defense are charmin soft when it comes to throwing hits and the like.

Having seen the video, I don't think that's what Torts did at all. He didn't say "I won't answer that question." He said "I'm not answering any of your questions." That, plus the way he started whining about Brooks' Redden sarcasm made it plain that Torts was spoiling to go with Brooks. Both coach and reporter were childish tools in this case, but Torts started it, and he was clearly looking to do just that.

...Except that that isn't how he handled the situation at all. He didn't ignore him, he just made an ass of himself.

And while he certainly doesn't HAVE to answer the question, when every other game he doesn't have answers to pretty elementary questions regarding the games being played, then he's asking for this line of questioning from the media.

His team has made a habit of playing awful, awful games. Not just bad. Awful. The captain doesn't have anything to say, the coach doesn't have anything to say, the GM never says anything at all. Listen, this is New York City. Someone's got to say something, and I don't mean insulting the press, who are simply doing their job. Brooks only asked a question that his peers were all probably thinking and considering asking themselves.

The whole press conference is already on Youtube, just search for John Tortorella postgame 1/21.

IMHO, Brooks sucks, he didn't need to bark back at Tortorella.

Ok, there's definitely a significant difference there. I haven't seen it and you have, so I'll take your word for it.

But instead of saying no comment or I’m not answering that, Tortorella made it personal. That shouldn’t be the case regardless of what, in Tortorella’s mind, sparked that reaction.
I have to say, I agree 100% with this.
It was a legitimate question, and Torts made it personal.

Then again Brooksie should've stopped when he asked once and it wasn't answered, but no need to go the way Tortorella did.

That being said it was rather entertaining.

Well I can't see why Calgary is scouting us. Both teams have the same need: scoring. 2 games in a row now, any of you care to take a stab?

Responding with a comment like "Then I'll just speculate" is going to cause a situation like that to explode. Plus it makes someone look like a total fool of a journalist...

Maybe we can trade Girardi and Redden for Phaneuf.
