Much needed win by the Coyotes!!! I just hope the Coyotes don't give up 40+ shots against the Capitals as they would likely give up more than just two with Ovechkin and company.

Hornqvist was very impressive tonight, I like how he competes around the net. Upshall had a great game, all 3 of his goals were beauties. Good win against a hot team on the road.

Watching the re-run on FSNaz. I can't get enough of those goals by Upshall. 1st one he made a beauty of a move at full speed putting Ellis a tad off his angle, and then he just tucked it in far side of the post. 2nd he out battled 4 Predators in front of the net, giving himself a second chance and he roofed it. 3rd he comes off the bench hits a guy causing the turnover, then he speeds the other way getting a pass from Hanzal, and then finishes it with a sweet backhand move. Awesome stuff. One more thing, Biz's name for him is the cookie monster, we should start calling him that.

I just caught the highlights on NHL On The Fly. Upshall deserves a lot of credit for the hat trick, for sure, especially that second goal that took a lot of work to stick with the play in traffic.

I was just as impressed with the two first assists by Doan. Doan does the work, draws multiple defenders to create space, finds the man in space, puts the puck in the perfect spot right in front of that player and does all of that almost all at once. Those two plays should be on some sort of instructional video as the definition a heads-up play.

What a great game! I loved the second goal by Upshall where he went ballistic into the boards right in front of me. You could tell he was beyond feeling it at that point and the hat trick seemed damn near inevitable.

After the suckfest that was Monday night, the fans and team sorely needed this game!

Can anyone else remember a natural third-period hat trick by a Coyote? I can't. I wonder whether it's ever happened, and particularly whether it's happened without an empty netter in there.

I was half-kidding about postponing the game, but tornados aren't something you mess with. It doesn't sound like anyone was hurt in the one that hit Desert Ridge, but that could have been a disaster. It hit around 8:30, so it was just before Hurricane Scottie started his path of destruction.

Announced attendance was 9,142 and I have to say that the crowd was much better than I expected, given the bad weather and the lack of a Predator fan base. The weather was pretty bad walking out of the arena after the game, but it would have felt much worse if the Coyotes had lost.

I was a little surprised that Bryz wasn't one of the three stars last night. He used to get recognized in games when I didn't think he really should have, but 41 saves on 43 shots is pretty good.

Did a tornado really hit desert ridge? I know it made the news last night, but living a couple miles away I thought it was ********. I don't see any reference to it this morning.

It's just a storm people.

h year, and about the game - glad we won, bummed I couldn't watch it. What a relief though - I wasn't sure the team was able to win those important games nowadays.

Feb 5th, 2008 - Peter Mueller scored the first three goals of the game in the Coyotes 4-3 loss to the Calgary Flames (just looked it up).

I remember that now. Good memory. Where did you look it up? I tried googling, but couldn't find anything that looked relevant.

That wasn't a 3rd period hat trick.

Here is the box score from that game. You are correct, as only one of the 3 goals was in the third period.

Looked in the media guide and then cross referenced it with box scores from the past.

There probably isn't a Wikipedia page for a Natural third-period hat trick without an empty-netter, but I'm pretty sure it would say:

A third-period natural hat trick without an empty-netter is when a player scores three goals in succession, none of which are scored into an empty net, in the 3rd period with no other players from either their own team, or the opposing team, scoring any goals in-between.

The Mueller information was interesting and good to remember so thanks for posting, but my question really was whether we'd ever had a natural 3d period hat trick. I certainly can't remember one.

And I know there have been a couple this year for other teams, but I think they often involve an empty netter.

NHL network had Stahl as their player of the night last night and it pissed me off, because I had the sense that what Upshall had done was incredibly rare. (Stahl had his third of his hat trick into the empty net.) But I think maybe On the Fly had given the honor to Stahl before our game was over, since I see that nhl.com has Upshall as the 1st star.
