Laraque to be Bought Out by Habs

http://twitter.com/rdsca

Quote:
George Laraque est libéré par le Canadien. Son salaire sera payé jusqu'à la fin de la saison et son contrat racheté cet été.
http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/291074.html

Quote:
Georges Laraque a été libéré par le Canadien, a appris notre collègue Renaud Lavoie jeudi matin.
http://habsinsideout.com/main/27984

Quote:
Georges Laraque is no longer a Canadien, RDS reports.

The network reports that the Canadiens will pay his salary through the end of the season, but he's effectively gone now.

Clearly, the writing was on he wall Wednesday night when Laraque was a healthy scratch with St. Louis muscleman Cam Janssen in the Blues lineup, and running Habs goalie Carey Price.
Naturally, it's not REALLY time for a player to leave Montreal until they stir up some drama.

i just spoke with Georges Laraque who has been released by the Habs. "Classless," is how he describes the move. Up soon on www.tsn.ca

confirmed by Habs Inside Out.
George is no longer a hab. As much as he was useless, I am going to miss him, but not his play.

The twitter makes it sound like he's basically "cut" from the team for the rest of the year since it says in present tense, literal translation "is liberated", he's still getting paid and his contract still hits the cap, but will be bought out this summer?

Ya bascially it says he's been released by the Canadiens and that his contract will be bought out this summer.

Bye Georges, you're a good guy, but not what this team needed.

His uselessness in the Rangers game was the last string.

Georges is a good guy. I'm just sad we couldn't have had the Laraque from 5 years ago. Too bad it didn't work out. Best of luck Georges!

Well... I can't say I'm unhappy!! I like what you have tried to accomplish here, but it just wasn't working.

Who else think he was kind of a Carbo's plan? He openly said in Laraque's UFA year that if he had a player like him that bringed toughness and knew how to play the game, he wouldn't be opposed to playing a tough guy.

So if I'm not mistaking this will also affect the 2011-12 season with him being a 1/3 of his salary on the cap right?

Well this is good in a sense, but now the habs will be beat on more than ever. They need to draft a functional tough guy that can grind it out, and skate.

Why wasn't he just put on waivers? At least you can hide this years cap hit. Or maybe somebody would have picked him up. Put him on waivers, send him down and tell him he doesn't have to report, but he'll get paid, and then buy out the remainder at the end of the year.

Man I knew something liek this would happen but no too sudden...specially after he scored that goal I thought he would get another chance...oh well

I really wish him the best

He's too good of a person I think it sucks that we didnt get this guy at his prime

He will remain the undefeated heavyweight champion!!!

I wonder if we will get another heavy weight now

This was a no brainer. When fighters stop fighting, they're absolutely useless. And I don't think Georges was protecting anyone on this team. And he sure as heck wasn't playing hockey.

Yes. Would have liked better if he got traded.
Samsonov part 2. The guy never wanted to play for the Habs.

Something like that. There is a calculation but I don't know what it works out too.

I think he has a no movment clause in his contract which includes not being put on waivers.
However I could be mistaken

So is his cap hit for 2010-2010 and 2011-2012 going to be 500k? I'm confused...

You could be right and if so, what a ridiculous player to give a NMC too.
