No Smid, No Staios, Bring on the Farm

Oilers will be calling up a defenseman later today and Smid and Staios will both miss tomorrow. AHL recommendation is Chorney, but we'll see

Injured. Staios has not been well for a while and Smid got cheap shotted in the head last night by one of the flying walendas. (ie Canucks)

Bring on the Farm?

Is not the majority of Oilers already the farm?

This team is starting to look like an AHL team with a couple of NHL regulars sent down for conditioning.

I wonder if Peckham gets called up for his grit. Would be the obvious pick to me considering who he is going to replace.

Like I said last night. The Oilers need to get meaner. They need a bunch of mean, nasty players (basically a few a**holes).

Mason Raymond of all people went out of his way to clobber Smid. You know why? He wasn't scared of any retaliation, etc.

This team is just too timid and nice.

I was kind of hoping they'd give Motin a shot.

I think this is more of a situation of the season is over, let's not make them play if they don't have to. Especially Staios who imo will be dealt and Smid who has shown enough to be back next year. I don't know what exactly is the issue with Smid but I would not be surprised to see him miss a few weeks. Just to be safe you know. This looks like a tank job at first glance imo.

Why does it seem like when an Oiler gets clobbered, they get injured....

You know you're team has toughness issues when guys like Mason Raymond are taking free cheap-shots: how in the hell does the organization think bringing up a small 'skill' defensman is going to help? (other than with the tank, that is...)

That's what I'd expect the pairings to look like too. Of course, Lubo and Strudwick would be the RD on those pairings, with Chorney and Grebeshkov on the left side, but that's just splitting hairs.

Haha it bothers me, too, when people have the D on the wrong sides.

I would kick up a storm if they did that

Chorney and Pekham are closer to being ready and the oiler's need to find out sooner then later if either one can step up right now if one d-man gets traded on the 3rd

That was classic. Especially the Alex Burrows and Brian Burke quotes. Word will get around that the Canucks are the whiniest team in the NHL.

might help his confidence/boost his stock ahead of a possible trade/boost his stats in a contract year.

i would have liked to have seen someone other than Chorney called up. in my mind, a roster D is traded before next year and Chorney's on the team. next year should be a rebuilding year, so why push Chorney now. why not test another asset at the NHL level.
