There was a string of posts on a messageboard dedicated to Bruins hockey as recently as last year. They asked Bís supporters to name the team they liked the least. It was astounding to see how a good portion of the younger fans weighing in with their opinions did not list Montreal. Whether it was a function of Bostonís postseason dominance over the Habs from 1990-94 followed by a period of eight years in which the two teams did not meet, or some other strange reason, the Canadiens didnít even make the top three of some fans. The younger set clearly seemed to identify more of a disdain for teams such as the New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs, but the Canadiens werenít seen as much of a threat, even after the first-round upset in 2002.

After adding one more crushing playoff defeat, however, it is safe to say that if you took another straw poll, Montreal would likely top the most-hated list for Boston fans both young and old.

(snip )

excellant piece... I never thought of this ..but yup..now not only do I have a love of our Bruins in common with you yutes... but ( with tear in eye ), a hatred of Les Habs.

There's my silver lining.

I think maybe it's time for a new poll.

My bet is Montreal will make a rebound to the most hated team!!

Great article as usual. I liked how he pointed out that rather than looking to the future it seems many people and the press have decided to play the blame game instead.

"If you're a B's fan, what else is new?"
That about sums it up.

Another great piece by Kirk.

When Joe stops being injured before MTL series.

2001 - 2002 stupid Atlanta's ice!!! Thorton had shoulder injury and didn't play 1.5 month going into the playoffs and had surgery right after that. (had 6 point though)

Last year we didn't have a chance anyway.

2002-2003 AGAIN!!! Even worse injury.

Somebody is using voodoo dolls up North.

Being a Bruins fan for over 35 years, my motto;

Hope for the best, expect the worst. It's just the way it is.......I'm just glad I'm not a true blue Red Sox fan as well, I don't know if I could take all that.
