I mean, the 20something year old captain and arguably the defenseman of the future? Those two are pretty untouchable for the Kings.

If you want Malkin it's Doughty +.

Such a deal would probably involve at least Jordan Staal, but I'd rather have him than either of these two players. No from the Pens. Why does eveyone want JJ? He is severely overrated and not to mention that -18. And Staal is a better fit for us than Brown. The talent levels are near equal, but Jordan being a center is better for us. So no, I dont want either of them.

Pittsburgh and L.A. make horrible trading partners.

The Kings would want nothing short of Malkin for that deal and Pittsburgh would decline. Staal, while a nice addition, is redundant to L.A.

While the value might be that, the Kings aren't trading their captain for that value.

I know it's been discussed ad naseum, but Johnson for Staal is the only deal between the two teams I could see happening. Or Johnson for Letang. Something like that.

Doughty-Letang on the PP! Woo!

Um, yes. If we're losing Brown+JJ, we're not taking back Staal as the centerpiece from the Pens' side of the deal.

If you called Lombardi asking for these two, the word out of his mouth would be.."Malkin", and go from there.

Is Staal + Letang and a pick the new, improved Halak, Ryder and a 2nd?

I wouldn't trade Doughty for anyone in the NHL, he's going to be that good.

They're quite a bit better, if you're asking a serious question.

But no, they aren't the new Ryder/Halak/2nd. Nobody is eager to trade them, which is the operative difference.

When will people realize the Kings and Pens dont make good trading partners and neither GM is going to overpay for the others players?

2nd year defenseman worthy of Norris nomination and good enough to make team Canada. Not a chance I'd trade him and I feel he will retire a King after he wins multiple awards.

Dion Phaneuf once had Norris consideration too. We all see how much that means now.

Those two are not even close in terms of skill and brains. Doughty, at his age holds as much or close to as much value as anyone in the NHL. Defenseman have more value than forwards and Doughty is the elite talent with all things considered.

Off the top of my head I can think of 3 to 5 guys I'd trade Drew for. There simply isn't any homerism about it.

You can call him a homer all you want, but tell me what defenseman in the NHL has more trade value than Drew Doughty?

I don't see how his comment is that out of line, there are obviously elite forwards like the Big 3 who get more press, but what Doughty is doing at 20 years old is amazing.

He is going to win many awards over his career, and its not just based on potential, he at this point would probably be a Norris finalist this season.

If you want to make a splash, stick with the plan and go balls to the wall for Kovalchuk.....
