No surprise, and honestly what we all thought he deserved. Hopefully Cormier can catch the end of Lowell's season so he doesn't have to sit out until September.

I really feel for Royun Noranda. They traded valuable assets to get this heathen and then he's gone.

They also made the right call.

A little excessive IMO.
Let's hope the CHL is consistant going forward with their suspensions.

No it's on par with what the CHL has been doing.

There's no way in hades Lou would give this ruling a big middle finger by allowing Cormier to play for Lowell this season.

He'll play in Lowell once the season is over in the Q. It's interesting that the Q commish said he could play there now if he wanted to, but will talk to AHL officials to respect his decision of season + playoffs. Once Rouyn Noranda is out, then he can play in Lowell. I think he'll be skating on his own in New Jersey, getting some help from coaches. Scott Stevens will have a big impact on this kid. In fact, I'd like if Patrice could go and stay at Scotty's place, remember what it did for Arnie?

Why not? Lou was on record as saying that he didn't believe Cormier's hit deserved a season long suspension. He also has no obligation to respect the spirit of the QMJHL's decision, but he does have an obligation to develop a Devils prospect.

I believe Cormier would have to be allowed to play in the AHL by some governing body of that league, but if he was, I don't think Lou would prevent him from playing if it meant he would develop better and maybe even help Lowell be a better team.

Great, wonderful, can we move on now? Or is everyone still condemning him?

I'm so tired of hearing about him and this hit!

Right call. Hopefully it serves to wake up Cormier (hopefully without dulling his edge too much - he needs to learn how to resist the impulse to elbow guys skating near him but not to neuter his physical game) and he'll be in Lowell or New Jersey next season.

I think your opinion is contemptible of hockey and of hockey fans in general.

Here is the "mainstream" opinion, which seems to me to be more in tune with acceptable social norms as well as with hockey sporting ethics:

Lamoriello, who watched the video and thought the hit was no big deal.
...
Lamoriello went further, "I certainly have spoken to Patrice, only because of the rhetoric," Lamoriello said. "I asked him how he felt because of the rhetoric.

"There is no issue from my end of it." Rhetoric? Here's another word for Lamoriello: disgraceful. That's what his comments were. They should also be an embarrassment to the Hockey Hall of Fame, which inducted Lamoriello this year.

Remove Lou from the HOF for his statement.

He never said the hit was okay, he only said it is not an issue because Patrice is not playing for the Devils right now. He wouldn't have reached out to him if he didn't care. But what else to expect out of Montreal outside of a big media ****.

There were some who misinterpreted comments from Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello last week, claiming that Lamoriello said that Cormier should not be suspended at all and that there was nothing wrong with the hit. As I clarified last week, Lamoriello was responding to a question—which I asked—about whether Cormier should face criminal chargers and be suspended for the rest of the season.

Lamoriello clarified to me again this morning that he did not say that Cormier should not be suspended at all.

“I don’t condone or accept that hit at all,” Lamoriello told me this morning.

He still feels that Cormier should not face criminal charges, though.

“The courts should not get involved in these things unless it is a situation that is extreme,” he said.

Really? It was just a sample of the many articles from various journals that express precisely the same opinion. I didn't realize that by choosing one from the Montreal Gazette, which is really not much different than the Philadelphia Inquirer, that would somehow undermine the viewpoint.

I read that article from the Gazette. The writer is one of those who misunderstood Lou's comments to mean that he didn't think Cormier should be suspended at all.
I don't know why people would believe this. I guess it just adds to the shock value of the whole story.

And YES..YOU KNOW WHO I'M TALKING ABOUT!! I'm sure he'll be lurking around here at some point today.

It's a bunch of people responding to a statement that was taken out of context.

Because after following the man's career with the Devils for 20+ years, I do believe he will "respect" another hockey governing bodies decision, even though it doesnt apply to the AHL. That's just my belief.

Exactly. They stir the pot and sensationalize to sell print. It's disgusting.

This thread is about the suspension/ruling.

ANYTHING ELSE is off topic.

If you think the Montreal media is "the mainstream", you haven't been paying attention.

Obviously Cormier's hit was a dirty one, and I agree with the decision to suspend him from the CHL for the rest of the season, which I said in my first post in this thread. But he hasn't been banned from the AHL, and he is a still a Devils prospect. Lou must do what is right for the Devils first and foremost, and that is not to punish Cormier further or cut him loose. If Lowell is still playing when Rouyn-Noranda's season ends, Cormier should be allowed to play. Either way it'll be a long suspension, the Huskies' season isn't over until at least mid-March.

Personally, I think Cormier should be strangled, decapitated, disemboweled, poisoned, stoned, drowned, starved, severely beaten, shot, stabbed, given season tickets to the Detroit Lions, electrocuted, bludgeoned, frozen, waterboarded, crushed, kicked in the nuts, and burned at the stake, in that order.
