Both are impending UFA's. Both teams in Western playoff race. Nashville needs help at F, Los Angeles needs help on D.

Either player individually could be used in a package to acquire a bigger name, but why not just make a rental for rental swap that helps out both teams?

Thoughts?
Interesting. Teams expected to be in the playoffs each make improvements in their areas of weakness and it doesn't cost longterm.

It actually was Colby Armstrong that was the final piece Waddell was holding out for that day.

Here's a great article about it. Scroll down to the Hossa picture and Don Waddell.

He pulled off some crazy stuff this winter, but him being young and having some undeniable skill - even if the size will remain an issue until proven otherwise - will make him a guy many teams would still take a chance on.

I'd have to think the Islanders - who already had their reasons for skipping out on Filatov and probably are not the least bit interested in the current antics - would still offer a marginal NHLer, two 3rd tier prospects and then something like a 2010 2nd or 2011 1st, pending on the scenario.

Example:
Tambellini, Dibenedetto, Shane Sims and the aforementioned pick, pending on whether Filatov plays and stays immediately (in which case, COL gets the pick of its choice, otherwise first the 2011 pick).

Don't know if Columbus would get a better deal, although it's possible. They'd surely want to.

Although he obviously doesn't have Heatley's resume, the routes players are taking to force a move nowadays - handcuffing their teams in the process - are not enticing any GMs, and are surely waring down on even those of the most patient nature.
Filatov goes at the draft, not the deadline.

Why is that? I'm not interested in bringing in Filatov like CIsle is though, I'm just curious.

And as for the Islanders, I would love to see us acquire Lee Stempniak if he's available at the deadline. How does Tambellini and PHO 3rd sound?

Stempniak will definitely be available. As for Tambellini and a 3rd, it could be a bit of an overpayment IMO. I bet Tambellini and a 4th gets it done. Most people are saying Stempniak could be acquired for a 2nd at most.

Aaron Ward to San Jose for 6th.

Niclas Wallin to Detroit Red Wings for 6th.

Stephane Yelle to Colorado Avalanche for 7th.

Sergei Samsonov to Boston Bruins for Vladimir Sobotka and 3rd.

Matt Cullen to Vancouver Canucks for Jannik Hansen and 3rd.

Ray Whitney and Joe Corvo to Los Angeles Kings for Trevor Lewis, Davis Drewiske, Teddy Purcell and 2nd.

Garnet Exelby to Chicago Blackhawks for 7th.

Craig Conroy to Buffalo Sabres for 4th.

Raffi Torres to Buffalo Sabres for Clarke MacArthur.

Marek Zidlicky to Buffalo Sabres for Andrej Sekera and 3rd.

Alexei Ponikarovsky to New York Rangers for Enver Lisin and 3rd.

Niklas Hagman to Phoenix Coyotes for 2nd.

Fredrik Modin to Pittsburgh Penguins for 4th.

Ethan Moreau to Boston Bruins for Matt Hunwick and 6th.
Please?
Dennis Wideman to Phoenix Coyotes for Peter Mueller.

Milan Jurcina and 4th to Boston Bruins for Michael Ryder and Alain Goulet.

Andrew Cogliano to Phoenix Coyotes for Kevin Porter, Sean Sullivan and 4th.
Wouldn't do it.
Matt Stajan to Calgary Flames for Dustin Boyd and 2nd.

Colby Armstrong to Calgary Flames for David Moss.

Cory Stillman to Calgary Flames for John Negrin and 3rd.

Ales Kotalik to Florida Panthers for 4th.

Mike Comrie to Ottawa Senators for 5th.
Comrie could fetch us at the most a 2nd - 3rd round pick IMO. He's been good in the games he's played this year.

Sheldon Souray to Anaheim Ducks for Mark Mitera, 3rd and Brett Festerling.
Not enough for Souray
Steve Staios to New Iork Islanders for 5th.
Done deal
Paul Kariya to New York Islanders for Blake Comeau and Justin DiBenedetto.

Pavel Kubina to Washington Capitals for Mathieu Perreault and 3rd.

Jay McClement and Paulo Colaiacovo to New Jersey Devils for Ilkka Pikkarainen, Matt Corrente and Matt Halischuk.

Ilya Kovalchuk to Colorado Avalanche for Marek Svatos, David Jones, Wes O'Neill and 1st.

Jeff Halpern to Montreal Canadiens for Ryan Russell and 4th.

Paul Mara to New York Rangers for 5th.
And the Kovalchuk deal seems a little low for Kovy..

Alright I would take that deal. Tambellini sucks and Stempniak would be pretty good with Bailey I would think.

Yeah...David Jones and a 1st are nice, but Svatos has almost no value, and Wes O'Neill literally has no value.

Thanks for that. I think Waddell was on NHL Network one day last year and I guess he was merely pumping Esposito's tires (or his own) because he said something to the effect that Espo was the player he wanted all along. It may have been during the WJC in Ottawa, where Espo had his best hockey moments (so far) of his career. Maybe he did say that, but needed Armstrong to get a deal done, who knows.

It's hard to believe that all we have left from that deal is Pascal Dupuis, but it's still considered a win.

Gleason is going nowhere, so we don't need to do the first one either. Stempniak is very underwhelming.

For one, the Jackets need talented players for cheap. Because of this, it'd be in the Jackets' best interest to hold out a little longer and see if he comes around.

Second, it doesn't look like he'd come back over in time for the playoffs. I suppose that may change depending on what team he'd be going back for.

Well here we are, a week or so after the deadline. I'm bumping the thread so everyone can look over the predictions of who predicted what right.

Quite a few of us got Poni to Pittsburgh. A couple got Torres to Buffalo. One or two got Stajan to Calgary and someone even mentioned Phaneuf to Toronto. Surprisingly, one or two said Yelle to Colorado, so a good job to everyone.
