Joe's Playoff Career Performance

I have issue with some people who have said that Joe has never done ANYTHING in the playoffs...Lets look at the breakdown...

1997-1998 = 6GP, 0-0-0 totals. He was a rookie this season, and only had 7 points in the regular season. He did not recieve much ice time at all.

1998-1999 = 11GP, 3-6-9 totals. 41 points in the regular season, and considering that, I dont think that he had a bad PO this season. Remeber it was still only his 2nd year.

2001-2002 - 6GP, 2-4-6 totals. Point per game, he had 68 points that regular season. Again, I dont believe that it was that bad either.

2002-2003 = 5GP, 1-2-3 totals. This was a bad PO for Joe. No excuse after 101 points in the regular season.

FINALLY....

2003-2004 = 7GP, 0-0-0 totals. He was playing with torn rib cartlidge. Granted he did not play well, and Im not trying to make excuses, however, we need to remember that he was very gutsy in all of this. He shouldnt have been playing in the first place.

CAREER TOTALS: 35GP, 6-12-18 totals.
...If you take out the year in which he was a rookie, and the year he had torn rib cartlidge

22GP, 6-12-18 totals.

I know that it hasnt been stellar, however I think some are overreacting when they say he NEVER shows up. Also, I think it is completely ludicrous that people want him to give up the "C", or EVEN get rid of him. Ask fans of the other 29 teams in the league, they would take Joe in a second.

Theres lots of factors-NOT EXCUSES-at work. The playoffs are a game crafted by good goaltending and good coaching. How often have we had both with a healthy Joe AND a 2nd line that can score? Wowzers. It's like Quinn said-You put together what you think can do it, and then sit back and hope that luck is on your side. Pat said before the playoffs he would'nt be suprised if any of the 8 teams in the east came out on top but the west has 2 more dominant teams in the wings/avs

What's interesting to note is that--as far as I know--the only time after his rookie year that Joe entered the playoffs completely healthy was last year vs. the Devils. In 1999 he had a boil on his foot (not a huge deal but I think it cost him a couple of games and lots of discomfort) in 2002 he had the bum shoulder that put him under the knife right afterwards.
One year in recent times that I still wonder about is 2001 when the Canes beat us by a point to keep us from the playoffs. Allison, Guerin, Thornton and Sammy were gonna tear it up if we got in. Our PP was good and Keenan had Joe in a zone. Who knows how things would be right now if the B's just gotten in that year. It might be just as well since we ditched Dafoe and developed Razor and Bergeron was brought into the fold since then. But all the best players were actually healthy down the stretch. That hasn't happened in a long time either.

Of course they were, but that wasn't really the purpose of my post....it was in response to hardbody wondering what Yzerman did in his first four playoff years. And, 80's or not, averaging over a point a game in the playoffs in his first four years are solid numbers. Of course, I have no idea of the other things Yzerman did in those games...so I can't say if Yzerman played like a God, or if those numbers were inflated thanks to some garbage goals/assists.

i mentioned yzerman b/c even though he averaged a point a game in his 1st 4 playoff yrs,his team didnt have any success and many in detroit wanted to trade him on several times, including way back in `90 for eric lindross.
then ll things changed when the wings finally won a cup....i know b/c i live on michigan
