Hard to say if Cormier got enough... depends on Tam's career status to me. People make mistakes, as flagrant as some are, but I feel that the suspension is right if Tam makes normal return to hockey.

I'd love for the NHL and/or the NHLPA to "turn their back" on Cormier, for the sake of their players, by not allowing him to be part of the league/association if Tam's career is over.

And I wonder what Northlands' real intentions are. A nervous stakeholder doing their "due diligence"... interesting.

I love Patrick LaForge's responce to the announcement,

I'm trying to understand what it means. ... I don't have any comment until we have time to digest.
Kinda seems like a good thing for the tax payers though.

If they ever really want to curb this type of thing they have to eliminate the old Colie Campbell style of justice. That being if you are hurt very badly you get one punishment but if by the grace of god you were not another very lenient punishment.

You can have to flagrant fouls, both exactly the same in every way including intent and if you guy convulses on the ice you get the book thrown at you and if the other guy is lucky enough to be out only a game or two you get another punishment.

Start policing the crime to the result of the crime.

Enough for me, although maybe it is time that everytime someone in junior hockey does something like this that they have to take a couple courses. First one anger management and the second one on the medical results of what crap like this can do to someone.

These are kids afterall and while sometimes it's just a one-time incident, sometimes it isn't. These kids need to realize that this isn't just something that can do damage to the player's career, but his life as well.

**** when we got suspended for smoking in the bathroom, we had a good 2-3 hour lecture from the principal and then another one by our parents. Does the QMJHL do anything like this?

Interesting quote from Dan Mason in that Northlands article:

"If there is going to be a substantial public investment, I think it is very, very difficult not to have some of the groups that have been engaged in the past be engaged in the future project. Northlands has existing relationships and expertise with working with different levels of government, so they can very much help if that's the direction that Katz needs to go to get this done."

It could very well come to pass that if Katz is looking for Public $$ to get this arena built, he'll have to get into bed w/ Northlands to make that happen.

Of course they do, its obvious the QMJHL was smoking something. I'm sure the CHL have already called them into their office and told them how wicked they'll turn out if they do it again.

i am not sure about the punishment for the hit. i mean it was an elbow...it could happen in a fight....it was blatant, etc. etc. but it is sort of like steve moore in that the injury is partially due to blatant violence, but mostly due to pure luck in the fact that he caught him perfectly in order to cause this kind of injury. it was a terrible elbow, but it wasn't like he started swinging his stick at the guy's head or something.

for that reason i think the suspension is fine....as extreme as it could be. any more would have been over the top.

Interesting quote from Horcoff:
"We're proud people, this is embarrassing for all of us. I think there are only one or two guys in this room who are remotely happy with the way their year is going."

I wonder who the one or two guys are?

Hard to say, my guess would be Penner and Brule.

When I first read that I thought it was a weird quote, but I read it again and realized the "their year is going" part referred to the individual seasons of the players in question, not the fortunes of the team in general.

Before I criticize Horcoff (again), I will say that he is a true professional. He doesn't bad-mouth the city or the fans in a tough love hockey town, and that's to be commended in this day and age.

Now, the problem is Shawn doesn't seem to understand that the fans are criticizing him not because of his inflated salary, but because he isn't EARNING that salary. If he's thinks that he's earning it, then that's the problem right there. If he thinks he's a better player than his lack of production this season illustrates, then he needs to show it. He's a drag on the Oilers payroll. That's the problem with his $5.5 MIL cap hit, he isn't earning his pay.

It's not that the fans have a problem paying pros the big bucks, it's that they have a problem paying pros big bucks for no results. In fact, that's what every GM in this league has (or should have) a problem with.

Why? What exactly does Northlands do for Edmonton? It's been a third rate fair board with a monopoly on events in Edmonton for 100 years. What have they done that gives them that right? Their operations are mediocre at best. They think small and they have no vision.

What do they bring to the table other than political ties/cronyism?

Is it because they're a non-profit organization? So what ... so is Scientology.

Cormier getting punished was the right thing, and missing an entire remaining season (up to 40 games) is good.

I'm finding myself reading more and more copper and blue writings lately. I'm not going to lie I have to skim through most articles in the morning, then read what I can throughout the day.

I would have figured he'd say three. "Me, Myself and I".

But honestly, that kind of comment will only stir up the shiat in the locker room. Great leader.
